Performs meter reading and recording for customer billing. Investigates possible unusual situations with water meters that could be leaks, malfunctioning equipment and improper/illegal use and reports to public works. Although the employee works independently and is often physically removed from supervision, duties are performed within the framework of pre-established policies and procedures. This position requires the acquisition of a Class D Water & Sewer License within one year of employment

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

o Follow assigned routes to read and record residential and commercial water meters; record readings with hand-held equipment.

o Perform the full range of customer service duties; re-read meters to resolve complaints; collect readings for final billings.

o Performs a variety of manual labor such as shoveling, digging, moving supplies and equipment, and clearing brush.

o This safety sensitive position requires the operation, maintenance or oversight of critical services of infrastructure including but not limited to, water, electric, gas, utilities.

o Respond to routine questions and requests for assistance from customers; resolve issue or refer to supervisor.

o Clean and perform routine preventive maintenance on assigned vehicle; report repair requirements to supervisor.

o Deliver documents, bills, mail and other materials as required

o Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

o Responds to emergencies after normal working hours.

o Practices and promotes safe work place procedures.
