What they need

Audit Partner / Director

  • Partnership and Director opportunities
  • Wellington
  • Big firm ability with smaller firm agility

Grant Thornton New Zealand is on an exciting growth trajectory and is seeking an experienced, highly proactive audit partner or director to support this growth in its Wellington office.

Grant Thornton delivers all the services you would expect from a global accounting and advisory firm, but that is where the similarities end. In New Zealand and across its global network, Grant Thornton is known for being down to earth and personable. Clients value a personalised service delivered by people who are passionate about their work and genuinely committed to making a difference. This creates a distinctive environment within professional services—one where clients and team members feel supported, can be themselves, and have the opportunity to thrive and grow. At Grant Thornton New Zealand, the only things treated as numbers are the numbers themselves.

As an audit partner or director at Grant Thornton, you will join a rapidly growing practice and take responsibility for a portfolio of high-calibre clients whose businesses reflect both New Zealand and international success stories. You will ensure that consistently high-quality audit services are delivered while playing an active role in the firm’s continued growth.

As a senior member of the firm, you will be a role model and people leader, guiding a thriving audit team and embodying the firm’s culture and behaviours: ‘choose abundance’, ‘earn trust’, ‘have the honest talk’, ‘everybody in for everybody’, ‘be unstoppable’ and ‘leave things better’. Culture is what sets Grant Thornton apart, and you will quickly become an integral part of the firm and its continuing success.

You will also maintain your technical expertise to ensure that clients consistently receive high-quality audit advice.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and managing a portfolio of existing clients, delivering consistently high-quality audit services, and ensuring high levels of client satisfaction
  • Taking ownership of growth across your portfolio and supporting the firm’s wider business development activities
  • Supporting the ongoing development of professional knowledge within the firm by staying current with best practice and sharing your expertise, including advising on technical matters, contributing to technical training, and providing day-to-day coaching to team members
  • Leading and providing direction to the team to support the effective delivery of strategic initiatives, identifying development opportunities for team members, and implementing appropriate solutions
  • Contributing to annual budgets and establishing work plans for your team and divisional productivity, working with the Audit Service Line Leader to monitor performance against targets and report progress monthly
  • Managing business risk through the delivery of high-quality work and compliance with all professional and ethical standards

About You

You are a CA or hold an equivalent overseas qualification. You may currently be a partner in another organisation, be looking to return to audit, or be an experienced audit director ready for the next step. In each case, you will be a highly motivated audit professional with a track record of uncompromising quality and a strong aptitude for business development. You enjoy working with clients and leading teams, and you are seeking a firm that aligns with your values and aspirations—a place where people come first and satisfaction comes from a job well done.

If this sounds like you, Grant Thornton welcomes your application.
