About the role

Contego. is seeking an experienced Passive Fire Installer to join our team in Queenstown. The role involves installing, repairing and maintaining passive fire protection systems across commercial and construction projects. The successful applicant will need to be confident using trade tools, reading site plans, working safely on construction sites, and completing work to a high standard of compliance and finish. This role is for a minimum 30 hours per week.

What you'll be doing

• Measuring, cutting, shaping and fixing fire-rated materials, including fire-rated board, GIB, fire batt and similar products;
• Building compliant fire-rated bulkheads using GIB, Promat board or similar fire-rated board systems;
• Cutting and forming timber or lightweight steel structures for passive fire installations;
• Installing fire and smoke-rated doors, including hanging doors, installing fire-rated locksets, building timber reveals and installing smoke seals;
• Installing or repairing GIB wall linings to allow compliant passive fire installation;
• Filling cracks, slab penetrations and other defects using fire-rated compounds, grout or pouring mix;
• Building formwork where required to create compliant fire-rated thresholds before pouring;
• Removing damaged or defective passive fire systems and assisting with compliant remedial solutions;
• Identifying, selecting and ordering materials required for passive fire work;
• Reading and interpreting fire plans, fire ratings and fire reports;
• Installing compliant and tested passive fire protection systems;
• Inspecting wall and ceiling coverings before work starts and liaising with other trades or contractors where remedial work is required;
• Maintaining records, documenting installation work and preparing draft quality assurance information for review;
• Liaising with fire, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and other subcontractor trades about passive fire requirements;
• Assisting with intumescent paint preparation work, including masking, protection and readings where required;
• Safely using hand tools, power tools, ladders and other site equipment;
• Following Contego’s health and safety requirements, including task analysis and toolbox processes; and
• Maintaining a clean and safe work area.

What we're looking for

• At least 3 years' relevant experience; or
• A relevant trade qualification at NZQF Level 4 or equivalent
• Good practical trade skills
• The ability to work accurately from plans and specifications;
• Good attention to detail;
• An understanding of construction site health and safety; and
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
