What they need

Passive Fire Technical & Compliance Manager – Fire Stopping & Fire Doors

Location: Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire / Hybrid Working
Salary: £50,000–£55,000 per year, depending on experience
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Working Arrangement: Flexible hybrid role – part office-based and part home-based, with site visits as required
Benefits: Company car, pension and ongoing training

M.Nic Group Ltd is looking for an experienced Passive Fire Technical & Compliance Manager to take ownership of our growing fire compartmentation and fire door division.

We are an established maintenance contractor working across residential blocks and managed properties. We currently have dedicated fire-stopping engineers on site, including a Fire Stopping Foreman, and are looking for an experienced technical person to manage the compliance, technical and operational side of the division.

This is a flexible hybrid role. The successful candidate will work partly from our Welwyn Garden City office and partly from home, depending on workload and operational requirements. Site attendance will also be required for surveys, inspections, technical issues, quality checks and client meetings.

A company car will be provided due to the requirement to attend sites when necessary.

This is not a general fire safety or fire risk assessor role. We are looking for someone with strong practical knowledge of passive fire protection, particularly fire stopping and fire doors.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day technical and compliance requirements of the passive fire division.
  • Review fire stopping and fire door surveys.
  • Select and verify appropriate tested fire-stopping details.
  • Review manufacturer test evidence, installation details, ETAs, classification reports and technical assessments.
  • Liaise with manufacturers such as Quelfire and other technical departments where clarification is required.
  • Maintain the company's approved fire-stopping detail library.
  • Produce clear installation information for site engineers.
  • Support the Fire Stopping Foreman with technical queries from site.
  • Ensure site conditions match the approved tested detail before installation.
  • Review installation photographs and completed works for compliance.
  • Manage non-conformances and required remedial actions.
  • Assist with quotations and specifications for fire stopping and fire door works.
  • Manage fire door survey, maintenance, remedial and replacement documentation.
  • Maintain BM TRADA/Q-Mark compliance documentation.
  • Prepare client completion packs and certification.
  • Maintain installer competency and training records.
  • Assist with internal audits and external certification audits.
  • Liaise with clients, property managers, consultants and fire professionals where required.
  • Attend site when necessary to inspect more complex installations or surveys.

Experience Required

We are looking for someone with strong previous experience in the passive fire industry.

Ideally you will have experience with:

  • Fire compartmentation and penetration sealing.
  • Fire doors, including inspection, maintenance and installation.
  • Tested fire-stopping details and system selection.
  • Quelfire, Nullifire, Hilti, ROCKWOOL or similar manufacturer systems.
  • BS EN 1366-3 and relevant passive fire testing standards.
  • Fire door testing and certification requirements.
  • BM TRADA Q-Mark and/or FIRAS schemes.
  • Reading fire strategies, specifications and technical drawings.
  • Reviewing site surveys and identifying compliant solutions.
  • Producing passive fire completion documentation.
  • Passive fire recording/QA software.

Experience working for a specialist passive fire contractor would be highly desirable.

The Person

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Technically confident within passive fire protection.
  • Organised and able to manage multiple jobs.
  • Comfortable challenging installations that do not match tested evidence.
  • Able to communicate clearly with engineers and office staff.
  • Confident dealing directly with manufacturers and clients.
  • Strong on documentation and attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently from home when required.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively from the office when needed.
  • Able to take ownership of the department rather than simply process paperwork.

You must be comfortable stopping or rejecting an installation where there is insufficient evidence to support the proposed solution.

What We Offer

  • £50,000–£55,000 salary depending on experience.
  • Company car.
  • Permanent full-time position.
  • Flexible hybrid working arrangement.
  • Combination of office-based and home-based working.
  • Site visits as required.
  • Opportunity to take ownership of and develop a growing passive fire division.
  • Support from an established office team and dedicated site engineers.
  • Ongoing manufacturer and industry training.
  • Company pension.
  • Further package details to be discussed depending on experience.
