Pastry/ Bakery Assistant (Opening Shift)

Haraz Coffee House is looking for a reliable, detail-oriented, and hardworking Pastry Assistant / Bakery Assistant to join our team! We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with baked goods, takes pride in presentation, and can help prepare our pastry display and kitchen for a smooth morning opening.

Key Responsibilities

• Early Morning Baking & Production: Assist with baking crossaints, cookies, and bread, and pastries to ensure everything is ready before opening.
• Pastry Display Setup: Arrange pastries, breads, and desserts neatly in display cases and on retail shelves, maintaining an attractive presentation.
• Breakfast Prep: Slice artisan breads such as ciabatta and brioche, prepare ingredients, and organize stations for breakfast sandwiches and morning service.
• Quality Control & Inventory: Monitor baking times and temperatures, check freshness, rotate products, and help track daily production needs.
• Kitchen Organization: Keep ingredients, baking supplies, and workstations organized and properly stocked.
• Cleaning & Sanitation: Maintain a clean, organized kitchen and follow all food safety and health department guidelines.
• Teamwork: Work efficiently with the kitchen and café team to ensure the bakery is ready for daily operations.

Qualifications

• Previous bakery, pastry, or food preparation experience preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate.
• Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working early morning shifts.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in food quality and presentation.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
• Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
• Able to stand for extended periods and lift baking supplies as needed.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently.

Position Details

• Position: Part-Time or Full-Time (based on availability)
• Location: Haraz Coffee House, Fairfax, VA
• Schedule: Early morning opening shifts; weekend availability may be required.
• Pay: Competitive, based on experience.

Pay: $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week
