About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable and motivated Pastry Kitchen Hand to join the kitchen team at The Dairy Bakehouse Ravensbourne.

This is a full-time position based in Ravensbourne, QLD 4352, working closely with our pastry chef and kitchen team to assist with the preparation and production of pastries, desserts, baked goods and other food items.

This role is suited to someone who has a genuine interest in pastry, baking and food production and would like to develop their skills within a professional kitchen environment. You will work alongside experienced chefs and pastry professionals, assisting with daily preparation while also taking responsibility for maintaining a clean, organised and efficient pastry kitchen.

The successful applicant will be an important part of the team, helping ensure production is consistent, well-presented and completed to the high standards expected at The Dairy Bakehouse.

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting the Pastry Chef with the daily preparation and production of pastries, cakes, desserts, biscuits, breads and other baked goods
• Preparing and setting up pastry and dessert components for events and daily service
• Assisting with the preparation of desserts and sweet items for weddings, functions and other events held at The Dairy
• Ensuring products are prepared consistently and presented to the required standard
• Assisting with the safe storage, labelling and rotation of ingredients and finished products
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the pastry and kitchen areas
• Cleaning and sanitising equipment, utensils, benches and preparation areas
• Ensuring pastry equipment and workspaces are properly cleaned and maintained after use
• Monitoring ingredient levels and assisting with stock rotation and replenishment
• Minimising food waste through careful preparation, storage and portion control
• Following all food safety, allergen management and workplace health and safety procedures
• Assisting the broader kitchen team when required, particularly during busy production and service periods
• Working collaboratively with the Pastry Chef, Head Chef and kitchen team to ensure smooth daily operations
• Undertaking other reasonable kitchen and pastry duties as directed by the Head Chef or Pastry Chef

The successful applicant will ideally have:

• Previous experience in a commercial kitchen, bakery, pastry kitchen or hospitality environment
• A strong interest in pastry and baking production
• An understanding of food preparation, food safety and hygiene standards
• Good attention to detail and pride in the presentation of food
• The ability to accurately follow recipes and production instructions
• An organised and methodical approach to preparation and kitchen work
• The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
• A willingness to learn new pastry techniques and develop professionally
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
• A positive attitude and willingness to assist wherever required
• Reliability, punctuality and a strong work ethic
• The physical ability to stand for extended periods and undertake repetitive kitchen tasks
