Location: Memphis, TN VA Medical Center

Schedule: Various shifts available. Coverage may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and Federal holidays based on VA scheduling requirements.

Contract length: 1 year with ext option, start april 1/ 2027

Pay: $57/hr

• Benefits: 10 days PTO, Accrued sick days, Paid Holidays, Health & welfare $5.42 (prorated based on hours worked)

Job Description

Lumbee Group is recruiting an ASCP-Certified Pathologists' Assistant for an anticipated federal healthcare contract supporting the VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Pathologists' Assistant will work within the Anatomic Pathology section under the direction and supervision of a pathologist.

Responsibilities may include:

• Prepare, grossly describe, and dissect human surgical tissue specimens.
• Assist with preparation of postmortem examinations.
• Examine and identify lesions.
• Sample, freeze, section, and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation.
• Prepare stained slides for pathologist review.
• Support gross pathology and anatomical pathology procedures.
• Assist with training of pathology residents, fellows, Pathologists' Assistant students, and laboratory personnel when required.
• Support research and biospecimen procurement.
• Perform administrative, educational, and laboratory-related duties as assigned.
• Help oversee anatomic pathology grossing areas, frozen-section areas, equipment, and autopsy facilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in:

  • Clinical Biology
  • Microbiology
  • Physiology
  • Pre-Medical Studies
  • Medical Laboratory Technology
  • Chemistry
  • Immunology
  • Anatomy
  • Or another related health science field

• Current Pathologists' Assistant certification through ASCP is required.

• Relevant anatomic pathology and laboratory experience.

• Experience with surgical pathology specimen preparation and gross dissection preferred.

• Must provide a current resume and required certification documentation.

• Must reside within 75 miles of the Memphis VA Medical Center.
