Patient Collections Representative

FirstChoice Neurology is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-service-focused Patient Collections Representative to join our Revenue Cycle Management team. The ideal candidate will have 1–2 years of experience in medical billing, patient collections, or healthcare customer service, along with experience using electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Contact patients regarding outstanding balances through phone calls, emails, and other approved communication methods.
• Answer incoming patient billing calls and respond to billing-related emails.
• Explain patient statements, deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and other patient financial responsibilities.
• Collect patient payments over the phone and through approved online payment portals.
• Establish and document payment arrangements according to company policies.
• Review patient accounts to verify outstanding balances and payment history.
• Complete assigned callbacks and follow up on unpaid patient balances.
• Maintain accurate account notes and document all patient interactions.
• Process refunds and payment-related requests according to established procedures.
• Assist patients with online payment options and billing portals.
• Meet departmental productivity, collection, and customer-service expectations.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience in medical billing, patient collections, healthcare customer service, or accounts receivable.
• Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management systems.
• Experience reviewing patient accounts, billing history, payment records, and outstanding balances.
• Knowledge of insurance deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and patient financial responsibility.
• Experience with patient billing portals and electronic payment processing preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong telephone etiquette and customer service skills.
• Proficiency with computers, billing software, and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to manage a high volume of calls, emails, and collection follow-ups.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accurate documentation.
• Ability to handle financial conversations with patients professionally and compassionately.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with eClinicalWorks (eCW) or similar EMR systems.
• Familiarity with 3CX or similar telephone systems.
• Experience managing patient statements, payment plans, collection accounts, and billing inquiries.

• Review patient accounts in the EMR before discussing outstanding balances.

• Provide professional, respectful, and compassionate service to patients.

Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
