At Peter Mac we aim to continuously improve cancer care, research and education across all cancers and for all people affected by cancer: changing lives, breaking new ground. Everything we do is underpinned by our core values, Excellence, Compassion and Innovation. Welcoming people from a wide variety of different backgrounds and experiences is critical to fostering innovation, compassion and excellence, and providing the best possible cancer care for our patients.

About the team

Our Patient Navigation team plays an integral role in delivering compassionate, coordinated cancer care. Working in partnership with multidisciplinary clinical teams, we help ensure patients experience a seamless journey through the health service by providing administrative support, coordinating communication, and helping patients access the care they need. Our work makes a meaningful difference to both the patient experience and the delivery of high-quality care.

About the role

Our Patient Navigators are key members of the administrative team, working closely with clinicians to support patients throughout their care pathway.

In this role, you will:

  • Be the first point of contact for patients, carers, and community referrers - responding to questions, resolving appointment issues, and helping to clarify instructions

  • Coordinate communication between patients and their clinical care team, ensuring timely and clear information flow

  • Facilitate patient access by managing patient flow and assisting with navigation through the cancer care system

  • Work within a tumour stream model, across multiple tumour streams, allowing you to develop specialist knowledge and build strong, ongoing relationships with patients and their multidisciplinary care teams

This is a complex but rewarding and meaningful role that makes a valuable contribution to the care of cancer patients.  You'll undertake a steep learning curve, but will be supported by a dedicated trainer through a comprehensive training program.

About You

You will be someone who is resilient, a fast learner, calm under pressure, articulate, and able to communicate confidently and assertively when required.

You’ll bring with you:

  • Excellent organisational and administrative abilities, including managing competing priorities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage compassionately with patients and families

  • Experience working in a healthcare, administrative or customer service role (healthcare experience highly regarded)

  • A proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving

Our benefits

We offer a range of benefits which support our people both personally and professionally, including:

  • Generous salary packaging to increase your take-home pay

  • Discounted health insurance and eye care

  • A comprehensive health and wellbeing program

  • Public transport options at our doorstep and end of trip facilities for cyclists

  • Onsite eateries and coffee shops and inviting rooftop garden spaces

  • Pathways for professional development and new career opportunities

  • Five weeks annual leave, 17.5% leave loading, monthly ADOs and purchased leave options

  • Flexible, hybrid working arrangements
