Payroll & Assistant Accountant

Moutere Group is looking for an experienced Payroll & Assistant Accountant to join our team in Brightwater.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied role and wants to take ownership of payroll while also supporting the wider finance function across our group of businesses.

Payroll experience is essential for this role.

About the role

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day payroll function while providing hands-on support across accounts and general finance administration.

Your role will include:

• Processing payroll across multiple companies
• Managing payroll data, leave, deductions and employee queries
• Ensuring payroll is accurate and compliant with relevant legislation
• Supporting PAYE preparation and IRD filing
• Accounts payable and creditor processing
• Accounts receivable, invoicing and credit control
• Bank and account reconciliations
• Processing payments and credit card transactions
• Providing financial information and reports to managers
• Supporting the finance and wider management team
• Maintaining accurate financial records and improving processes where possible

About you

We're looking for someone who is experienced, organised and practical, with the confidence to manage their own workload and take ownership of their responsibilities.

You'll ideally have:

• 2–4 years' accounting or finance experience
• Current payroll experience – essential
• Experience processing payroll for multiple companies would be an advantage
• Good knowledge of New Zealand payroll requirements
• Intermediate Excel skills
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent organisation and time management skills
• Good communication skills and the ability to work with people at all levels
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach
• The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
• High levels of confidentiality and discretion

A relevant accounting qualification or HR/payroll background would be advantageous, but hands-on experience and the right attitude are what we're really looking for.
