Payroll and Benefits Supervisor

Responsibilities

• Oversee and ensure accurate, timely payroll processing for approximately 900 employees across the United States and Canada
• Audit and review payroll transactions, time records, deductions, earnings, taxes, and payroll-related reporting
• Administer employee benefit programs and assist employees with benefits questions, enrollments, claims, and issue resolution
• Serve as a primary liaison between employees, benefit providers, and payroll tax authorities
• Partner with leadership to establish, document, and maintain payroll and benefits processes, procedures, and internal controls
• Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support compliance and operational consistency
• Provide mentorship, guidance, and day-to-day leadership to payroll support staff
• Collaborate closely with onboarding and HR functions to ensure smooth employee transitions and accurate payroll setup
• Assist with payroll reconciliations, reporting, audits, and special projects
• Leverage Excel to analyze, reconcile, and report on large data sets

Qualifications

• 4+ years of progressive payroll experience
• 2+ years of benefits administration experience
• Prior supervisory, lead, or mentoring experience within payroll or HR operations
• Strong understanding of multi-state payroll processing
• Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs
• Proven ability to identify process improvements and implement controls
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Ability to work independently in a structured, deadline-driven environment
• Experience supporting Canadian payroll operations (preferred)
• Experience with UKG Pro, UKG Ready, or similar payroll systems
• Background creating SOPs, process documentation, and compliance procedures (preferred)

The ideal candidate will bring strong payroll expertise, benefits knowledge, leadership experience, and advanced Excel skills. This individual will serve as a key business partner to management while helping maintain accuracy, consistency, and accountability within the payroll function.
