What they need
About the role
This role runs end-to-end payroll for subsidiaries and provides finance, governance and administration support from head office. It suits an experienced payroll professional who wants a varied role working directly with senior management. The position combines four areas: payroll, finance support to the executive, company secretary duties, and an administrative overhaul of IT and filing systems. You will be the go-to person for accurate, confidential and well-organised financial administration.
Key responsibilities
- Process accurate, on-time payroll for all staff (permanent, part-time and casual) on a fortnightly cycle for 2-3 entities.
- Interpret and apply the relevant modern award(s), enterprise agreements and employment contracts, including penalty rates, overtime, allowances and split shifts.
- Maintain employee records: onboarding, tax file declarations, super choice forms, bank details, pay rate changes and terminations.
- Calculate and process leave, including annual, personal/carer's, long service and parental leave, and leave loading.
- Prepare termination and redundancy payments in line with legislation and awards.
- Lodge Single Touch Payroll (STP) reports and manage end-of-financial-year finalisation.
- Process superannuation contributions on time and in line with current super guarantee and payday super requirements.
- Prepare and lodge payroll tax and workers' compensation returns and declarations.
- Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and prepare payroll journals and reports for management.
- Manage salary sacrifice, deductions, garnishee orders and child support deductions.
- Assist with accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations and month-end processes.
- Prepare financial reports, budgets and analysis as required.
- Lead an administrative review and overhaul of electronic filing systems, including document storage, naming conventions and access controls.
About you
- At least 5 years' experience running end-to-end payroll in Australia, ideally for 60+ employees.
- Extensive experience with award interpretation, preferably in hospitality, clubs or another award-heavy industry with casual and shift-based staff.
- Thorough working knowledge of the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards, superannuation guarantee, STP, PAYG withholding and payroll tax.
- Proven experience calculating complex leave, termination and redundancy payments.
- Advanced skills in payroll software such as Xero and Deputy and strong Excel skills.
- Strong accuracy, attention to detail and ability to meet fixed payroll deadlines.
- High level of discretion when handling confidential employee and financial information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with a friendly, helpful approach to staff queries.
- Highly organised, able to manage competing priorities and work independently.
- Tertiary qualification in payroll, accounting, business or a related field, or equivalent experience.
