Payroll Manager

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to take ownership of the company’s end-to-end payroll function for a growing marine and industrial services organization.

This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for overseeing payroll processing while expanding the payroll function to include payroll tax compliance, reporting, regulatory filings, and other responsibilities currently handled by Accounting.

The ideal candidate will have strong multi-state payroll experience , excellent knowledge of payroll compliance, and the ability to manage a small payroll team.

What You’ll Do

Oversee end-to-end payroll processing across multiple states

Manage and support a payroll team consisting of one full-time and one part-time employee

Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing

Oversee federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements

Manage quarterly and annual payroll filings, including 941s and W-2s

Oversee state unemployment reporting and payroll tax returns

Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state payroll regulations

Manage payroll requirements across multiple states, including complex jurisdictions such as California and Washington

Partner with Accounting and other internal departments to transition payroll-related responsibilities into the Payroll function

Review payroll for accuracy, compliance, and proper reporting

Research and resolve payroll discrepancies and compliance issues

Develop and maintain payroll processes, procedures, and internal controls

Support audits and provide payroll-related reporting and documentation

Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation

Help ensure payroll processes remain compliant as the organization grows and expands into different jurisdictions

What We’re Looking For

5+ years of progressive payroll experience, preferably including payroll management or supervisory experience

Strong experience with multi-state payroll

Experience with payroll tax compliance and filings

Hands-on experience with W-2s, 941s, unemployment filings, and payroll tax returns

Strong understanding of federal and state payroll regulations

Previous experience managing or mentoring payroll staff

Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality

Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Ability to independently manage multiple payroll deadlines and priorities

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP / Great Plains

Payroll experience within a manufacturing, industrial, construction, maritime, defense, or similarly complex environment

Experience transitioning payroll responsibilities from Accounting to Payroll

Experience managing payroll for a geographically dispersed workforce

Work Arrangement

This position may be based in Spanish Fort, Alabama or worked remotely , depending on the candidate.
