Payroll Manager - Rippling Experience Required

Overview

Ryan-Boer Solutions (RBS) provides payroll, HR, benefits administration, and compliance support to for-profit and nonprofit clients. We’re looking for a hands-on Payroll Manager to lead our team of Payroll Specialists in this remote, part-time role (20–30 hours per week). You’ll report to our Director of HR and Payroll.

Most of our clients use Rippling Payroll and Rippling Time & Attendance. You’ll need hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting Rippling, not just processing payroll in it.

This is a working manager role. Along with leading the team, you’ll stay close to the work: reviewing complex transactions, covering client accounts, and processing payroll during peak periods, absences, and client transitions.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and develop Payroll Specialists, including recruiting and performance management
• Review payroll registers, timesheets, and exceptions for accuracy and compliance
• Oversee multi-state payroll, tax reporting, corrections, and off-cycle payrolls
• Own 401(k) and retirement contribution processing and reconciliation
• Maintain, test, and troubleshoot Rippling Payroll and Time & Attendance configurations
• Proactively identify payroll, configuration, and compliance risks
• Own escalated payroll and system issues through resolution, including root-cause fixes
• Standardize, document, and improve payroll processes, SOPs, and controls across clients
• Serve as a trusted payroll and systems resource to clients
• Provide direct payroll processing and client coverage as needed

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of payroll processing experience
• Experience leading or supervising payroll team members
• Multi-state and California payroll and employment compliance experience
• Hands-on Rippling Payroll and Time & Attendance experience, including configuration and troubleshooting
• Experience processing and reconciling 401(k) contributions and payroll deductions
• Strong knowledge of payroll taxes, garnishments, and wage-and-hour requirements
• Experience building payroll procedures, controls, and documentation
• Strong Excel, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines in a service-driven environment
• Must live in CA, OR, WA, NV, ID, AZ, or UT and be available during core business hours of 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. PT, Monday–Friday, plus full days on scheduled payroll processing days as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
• Experience with Paychex, Gusto, or QuickBooks Payroll
• Experience in a payroll service, accounting firm, PEO, or other multi-client setting
