Role Overview
Our client, a leading steel fabrication and manufacturing specialist based in Somerton, is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to manage end-to-end payroll processing, statutory compliance, and cost reporting for up to 200 employees using MYOB. This role requires a detail-oriented payroll professional with 3 to 5 years of experience.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Processing: Execute complete weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payroll cycles for up to 200 staff accurately and on time using MYOB.
- Annual Tax & WorkCover Reconciliations: Prepare and lodge annual State Payroll Tax reconciliations across relevant jurisdictions, perform annual WorkCover/Workers' Compensation remuneration declarations, and manage ongoing policy adjustments.
- Normal Time & Overtime Reporting: Generate detailed labour reports tracking normal time versus overtime hours, providing management with clear visibility into labour expense trends and operational efficiency.
- **Cost Centre Allocation & Audit:**Produce payroll breakdowns by cost centre and department. Actively investigate and fix miscoded cost centre allocations, unallocated payroll entries, or broken cost centre maps to ensure general ledger integrity.
- Compliance & Statutory Reporting: Manage Single Touch Payroll (STP Phase 2) end-of-year finalisations, PAYG withholding, monthly superannuation guarantee contributions, and statutory reporting obligations.
- Award & EBA Interpretation: Interpret and apply relevant Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements, and National Employment Standards (NES) regarding base rates, overtime multipliers, allowances, and leave accruals.
- **Data Management & Offboarding:**Maintain accurate employee master records in MYOB, including correct cost centre assignments, tax file declarations, rate changes, leave accruals, and complex termination calculations.
- Query Resolution: Serve as the primary contact for employee pay enquiries and manager cost-allocation queries, delivering clear communication and maintaining strict confidentiality.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of dedicated end-to-end payroll experience servicing a headcount of 150-200+ employees.
- Statutory Compliance Track Record: Proven hands-on experience performing annual State Payroll Tax reconciliations and annual WorkCover declarations.
- Software Expertise: Advanced proficiency in MYOB payroll and cost-centre tracking functions. Strong skills in MS Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, data reconciliations) are essential.
- Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Australian payroll laws, ATO regulations, state payroll tax thresholds, superannuation legislation, and award-based overtime structures.
- **Skills:**High numerical accuracy, sharp analytical skills for troubleshooting broken cost-centre mapping, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
