What they need

National Role| Full-time

Make a real impact supporting healthcare delivery across Aotearoa
Be part of a collaborative payroll team

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to more than 5 million people. We provide essential hospital, specialist and community health services across over 80 locations, from large urban centres to rural and remote communities.

Our shared vision is to deliver equitable, accessible and high-quality healthcare for all New Zealanders, firmly grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Pae Ora - Healthy Futures reforms.

About the Role

We are seeking a Payroll Officer to join our national payroll team. This role plays an important part in supporting participating services by delivering high-quality, customer-focused payroll services in a fast-paced shared services environment.

In this role, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll data, including HR and pay information loading, maintenance, and compliance with relevant employment legislation and internal policies. You will respond to payroll queries professionally and within agreed service levels, while working closely with colleagues to ensure payroll processes run smoothly each pay cycle.

This opportunity will suit someone who enjoys working as part of a team, values accuracy and service excellence, and is motivated to contribute to continuous improvement while supporting a workforce that delivers vital healthcare services across the motu.

About You

As a Payroll Officer, you will bring:

  • Experience working in payroll or accounts functions
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and compliance
  • A customer-focused approach, with the ability to respond to payroll queries professionally and efficiently
  • Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the ability to apply its principles in your everyday work

Experience in a shared services or large organisational environment, and at least two years' payroll experience, will be advantageous.

Working at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora

We welcome applications from our diverse Māori, Pacific, disabled, and rainbow communities.
