What they need

Who are we?

St Andrew’s College is recognised as one of New Zealand’s leading independent schools. We are a co-educational day and boarding school with a proud heritage, educating akōnga from Pre School to Year 13, set on picturesque, park like grounds in Christchurch. We are seeking a capable and experienced permanent part-time (4 days per week) Payroll Officer to join our Finance team at St Andrew's College and play a key role in ensuring our staff are paid accurately and on time.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the College as we continue to embed our recently implemented Datapay payroll system and further enhance our payroll processes.

About the Role

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Payroll Officer oversees all aspects of the end-to-end payroll function for our approximately 320 staff. The role is part of a small, close knit Finance team, where attention to detail, confidentiality and a problem-solving approach are essential to ensure our team members are paid accurately and on time in a complex education environment. You will also work closely with HR colleagues to ensure employee payroll and employment data is accurate and well maintained. Whilst the role has a heavy payroll focus, there will also be the opportunity to be involved in varied financial processes, such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, account reconciliations and financial reporting.

What you’ll bring to the role

You will be an experienced and capable payroll practitioner with a good understanding of the New Zealand payroll environment, who is used to working in complex payroll settings and can manage confidential information with discretion. You will have excellent communication skills and a customer focused mindset, with a commitment to detail and accuracy.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

·         Previous payroll experience, ideally processing end-to-end payroll

·         Sound knowledge of New Zealand payroll legislation and compliance requirements

·         Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail

·         Excellent organisational and time-management skills

·         High levels of discretion and confidentiality

·         Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach

·         Experience with Datapay payroll software is of benefit, or the ability to quickly learn new systems

·         Experience working within the education sector would be advantageous but is not essential.

About us

St Andrew’s College offers a supportive and encouraging workplace and culture. We provide an exceptional environment where outstanding students and staff inspire each other every day to make this a special place. We offer our employees a comprehensive benefits package including discount on tuition fees, income protection and life insurance, discounted health insurance, 4% Kiwisaver, use of our onsite fitness centre as well as other staff benefits.

If you are an experienced payroll professional who values accuracy, service excellence and continuous improvement, we would love to hear from you.
