What they need

CASUAL  |  REMOTE

Help us resolve payroll issues, improve our payroll processes and give employees clear, practical support.

Garden Village is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to provide additional hands-on support to our Finance and People and Culture teams. This is a flexible casual role for someone who knows ADP (or similar enterprise payroll system) well, can interpret enterprise agreements and awards, and enjoys getting to the cause of complex payroll issues.

About Garden Village

Garden Village is a not-for-profit provider of aged care, retirement living and community services in Port Macquarie. For more than 40 years we have supported our local community, and our employees are central to the care and services we provide.

About the Opportunity

Following the implementation of ADP, we are working through a significant volume of employee enquiries and payroll issues. You will help us manage the immediate workload while also assisting to improve the systems, controls and documentation behind it.

The role is expected to involve approximately 15 to 20 hours per fortnight for an initial three to six months. Hours may scale up or down depending on pay-run requirements and the volume of work. The position can be performed remotely, with possible onsite attendance in Port Macquarie if required. Any travel arrangements will be agreed in advance.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Manage and respond to payroll enquiries through the Payroll inbox, keeping employees informed as matters progress.
  • Investigate pay, leave, allowance, deduction and adjustment issues and coordinate corrective action.
  • Assist with ADP configuration, data, calculation and workflow problems and work with ADP or other providers to resolve them.
  • Interpret enterprise agreements, modern awards, employment conditions and payroll rules and apply them to individual cases and system settings.
  • Maintain a detailed Payroll Issues Log, with clear ownership, priorities, actions, due dates and closure evidence.
  • Identify recurring themes and root causes, then recommend practical system, process or communication improvements.
  • Document decisions, fixes, procedures and workarounds and support a clear transition into business as usual.

What You Will Bring

  • Strong, recent hands-on enterprise payroll experience.
  • Experience resolving and/or assisting with payroll system and configuration issues in a complex workforce.
  • Sound knowledge of Australian payroll requirements and confidence interpreting enterprise agreements and modern awards.
  • The ability to explain payroll matters clearly and manage sensitive or frustrated employee enquiries calmly and respectfully.
  • Strong investigation, project coordination and documentation skills.
  • The ability to work independently, prioritise competing issues and collaborate remotely with Finance and People and Culture.

Experience in aged care, health, community services or another shift-based and industrially complex environment would be highly regarded. Experience with payroll remediation or post-implementation stabilisation would also be valuable.

Why Consider This Role

  • Flexible remote work with a modest, scalable casual commitment.
  • A practical specialist role where your experience will make an immediate difference to employees and the teams supporting them.
  • The opportunity to improve processes, resolve root causes and leave clear documentation behind.
  • Close collaboration with Finance and People and Culture in a community-based not-for-profit organisation.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your recent experience, your work with enterprise agreements or modern awards, your availability and your preferred casual hourly rate. Applications will be reviewed as they are received. Contact Kath Harris at [email protected] or [0422 841 203](tel:0422 841 203)

Employment will be subject to Garden Village’s usual pre-employment requirements and evidence of the right to work in Australia.
