At Hagerman, we've spent more than a century building lasting relationships, exceptional projects, and strong communities. We believe our people are our greatest asset, and we're looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our team and help ensure our employees are paid accurately and on time.
If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy working with numbers, and take pride in delivering exceptional service, this could be the opportunity for you.
What You'll Do
As a Payroll Specialist, you'll play a critical role in processing weekly payroll for union and non-union employees across multiple companies and states within our construction operations. You'll be responsible for the complete payroll cycle, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and exceptional employee support.
Key responsibilities include:
- Process weekly and off-cycle payroll from start to finish.
- Review and validate employee time, earnings, taxes, benefits, deductions, garnishments, and payroll changes.
- Calculate and audit gross-to-net payroll and reconcile payroll registers before final processing.
- Create and validate direct deposit files, payroll checks, pay statements, and payroll funding documentation.
- Complete payroll posting activities and review payroll-related general ledger transactions for accuracy.
- Process union payroll requirements, including wage rates, classifications, fringe benefits, dues, and other collectively bargained deductions.
- Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, adjustments, and employee inquiries.
- Support employee onboarding and maintain employee records within Arcoro and related HR systems.
- Assist with payroll reporting, audits, and analytics.
- Maintain confidential payroll and employee information with the highest level of integrity.
What Success Looks Like
In this role, you'll:
- Consistently deliver accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Manage recurring payroll deadlines with confidence and precision.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies before payroll is finalized.
- Build strong partnerships with employees, project teams, managers, Human Resources, Accounting, and external partners.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of payroll processes and controls.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365, particularly Excel.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience processing payroll from beginning to end.
- Payroll experience preferred over general accounting experience.
- Union payroll and/or construction industry payroll experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of payroll calculations, tax withholdings, garnishments, child support orders, benefit deductions, reconciliations, and payroll controls.
- Experience with payroll, HRIS, timekeeping, or ERP systems.
- CMiC and Arcoro experience are a plus.
- Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred.
