Payroll Specialist VA

Job Summary:
Put your name forward as a Bookkeeper and Payroll Specialist who helps onboard clients needing payroll set up. You’ll pair solid bookkeeping knowledge with hands-on payroll experience, ideally in Gusto. You’d be a great match if you’re highly motivated, detail-oriented, efficient, and guided by a strong sense of integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

• Onboard new clients who need payroll set up, walking each one through the whole process
• Set up and configure client payroll accounts in Gusto
• Gather and confirm the employee and company information required for payroll setup
• Keep bookkeeping records accurate and make sure payroll data lines up with the books
• Check payroll details for accuracy before submission
• Handle sensitive financial and employee information in strict confidence
• Follow up with clients on missing information to keep onboarding moving
• Document onboarding steps and raise issues or discrepancies quickly

Mandatory Skills:

• Working knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices
• Hands-on experience with payroll processing and setup
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy with financial data
• A high level of integrity and discretion with confidential information
• Highly motivated, efficient, and able to manage tasks with minimal oversight
• Organized, conscientious, and comfortable working solo
• Strong communication skills

Preferred Skills:

• Familiarity with Gusto payroll software
• Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks or Xero
• Experience onboarding clients or setting up new accounts
• Understanding of payroll tax and compliance basics
• Skilled at balancing several projects at a time
