Working model: Onsite

I’m working with a leading defence technology organisation looking for a PCB Technologist to join a specialist electronics engineering team, with a particular focus on component failure analysis and technical problem-solving.

This is a hands-on opportunity to work with complex electronic hardware across development, production and in-service environments, combining laboratory investigation, fault finding and root cause analysis.

The role

You’ll support the development of component failure analysis capability, working closely with electronics engineers, manufacturing teams and technical specialists to understand why hardware has failed and help identify appropriate solutions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Investigating electronic component and circuit card failures through hands-on fault finding and laboratory analysis
  • Using electronic test equipment to diagnose issues down to component level
  • Working with design, manufacturing, test and component engineering teams to identify root causes
  • Supporting the introduction and evaluation of new failure analysis processes, techniques and equipment
  • Working with internal and external technical partners and suppliers, including occasional international travel
  • Applying knowledge of PCB and circuit card assembly manufacturing processes when assessing failures
  • Producing technical reports and contributing to engineering standards and documentation
  • Managing technical work packages while balancing cost, quality and delivery timescales
  • Building your technical knowledge through internal and external training

What we’re looking for

We’re interested in candidates with practical experience in electronics fault finding and investigation, particularly those who have worked with:

  • Circuit card assemblies and component-level fault finding
  • Electronic test and measurement equipment
  • PCB and electronic assembly manufacturing processes
  • Electronic component specifications and design principles
  • Root cause analysis and technical problem-solving
  • Managing engineering activities or work packages to agreed timescales

Strong communication skills are important, as you’ll work across multiple engineering and manufacturing functions as well as with external organisations.

Package

  • Bonus up to £2,500
  • Pension contribution up to 14%
  • Paid overtime opportunities
  • Up to 15 additional days through flexi leave
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Subsidised meals and free onsite parking
  • Healthcare Cash Plan
