Ka Puta Ka Ora Emerge Aotearoa - Peer Services (formerly Mind & Body) is dedicated to strengthening whānau and communities using lived experience. Since 1998, we have provided peer-led support, advocacy, training, and consultancy, guided by hope, personal power, and connection. We support people facing mental health and addiction challenges to take charge of their recovery and wellbeing. Our work includes de-stigmatising mental distress, reducing marginalisation, fostering social inclusion, and delivering mental health education in workplaces, schools, and organisations, supporting people move forward and reach their full potential.

He kōrero mō te tūranga | The Role

As a Peer Support Worker on the 1737 phone service, you'll use your personal lived experience of mental distress and/or addiction to provide compassionate, recovery-focused support to people across Aotearoa. Through meaningful conversations, you'll offer hope, understanding, and practical strategies that support people to take positive steps towards their wellbeing.

Every call is different. You may be supporting someone who is feeling overwhelmed, isolated, anxious, grieving, or simply needs someone who truly understands. Working as part of a supportive team, you'll build genuine connections, share your lived experience where appropriate, promote self-determination, and help people identify their strengths while connecting them with additional supports when needed.

The 1737 service provides brief emotional support and guidance, helping callers navigate challenges and access further support where appropriate.

This is a casual opportunity, offering flexibility to pick up shifts as available.

He kōrero mōu | About You

To be successful in this role you'll:

• Bring personal experience of mental distress and/or addiction challenges and share your journey of taking control of your own well-being and the insights and personal awareness you built. This must be addressed in your cover letter.
• Have either a Level 4 Certificate in Health & Wellbeing or equivalent.
• Must hold and maintain First Aid certification including CPR (or be willing and able to complete this).
