As a collaborative and purpose-driven organisation, we're committed to delivering science that creates meaningful impact for communities, industry and the environment, while partnering with Māori, supporting Pacific resilience, and shaping a more sustainable future for generations to come.
We are looking for a People Operations Coordinator to join our team and help create a great experience for our people.

- Prepare accurate employee documentation and manage workflows to ensure timely communication with relevant teams and stakeholders.
- Provide responsive, practical support to managers across the organisation on a broad range of people-related matters.
- Support the People and Transformation team with annual people processes, reporting, and the continuous improvement of policies and templates.
- Contribute to HR projects and process improvements as we continue on our transformation journey.
What you’ll bring:
- Previous experience in an HR coordination role; a relevant qualification is desirable.
- Strong attention to detail and maintaining accuracy, even when working at pace.
- An ability to manage multiple priorities and see tasks through to timely completion.
- Great communication skills and a passion for helping people find solutions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy when handling employee data.
- Some knowledge of an HRIS and / or payroll platform would be desirable.
We know that talented people—especially those from under‑represented or neurodiverse communities—sometimes hesitate to apply unless they meet every single requirement in a job description. If this role aligns with your strengths, lived experience, or interests, we’d love to hear from you and we’re committed to supporting your growth.
What we offer
- Varied, challenging and important work with talented colleagues in an organisation devoted to earth science.
- A high performing organisation with a focus on employee development and wellbeing.
- Generous leave entitlements and employee benefits.
- Flexible working options. We are happy to discuss potential flexible options for this position at the interview stage.
- A permanent, full time (38 hours per week) position.
- This role can be located at either our Auckland CBD office, or our Avalon (Lower Hutt) campus
- The salary range for this position is between $70,000 to $77,000, depending on the successful candidate’s experience.
