What they need
- The People Technology Platform Engineer, Workday is responsible for designing, building, and evolving SIE’s global Workday platform across core HR domains
- This role operates as an independent contributor within People Technology Services, owning the design, configuration architecture, and delivery of scalable Workday solutions
- The role translates business needs into durable platform capabilities, ensuring solutions are reusable, maintainable, and aligned with long-term system design and governance standards
- Working within an Agile product delivery model, this role contributes to both the continuous evolution of the platform and the reliability of core services
- The Platform Engineer partners closely with Product, Data, and Integration teams to deliver cohesive, end-to-end solutions across the People Technology ecosystem
- This role is suited for individuals who combine strong functional understanding with a systems approach, and who are motivated to build, improve, and scale enterprise platforms over time
- Platform Engineering & Solution Design
- Design, configure, and implement scalable Workday platform solutions across core HR domains, including business process frameworks, organizational structures, eligibility rules, and calculated fields
- Define and apply configuration design patterns that promote reuse, scalability, and maintainability across the platform
- Translate business problems into well-structured system solutions, ensuring alignment with platform capabilities, governance standards, and long-term sustainability
- Evaluate solution options and make informed design decisions, balancing business needs, system constraints, and operational considerations
- Own end-to-end delivery of platform changes, including design, build, testing, and deployment readiness
- Ensure solutions are consistent with broader platform architecture and avoid fragmented or one-off implementations
- Platform Ownership & Operations
- Act as a platform owner for assigned Workday domains (e.g., Core HCM, Absence, Compensation, Talent), accountable for system behavior, design integrity, and continuous improvement
- Maintain platform reliability through issue diagnosis and resolution, identifying root causes and implementing structural improvements to reduce recurrence
- Partner with team members to prioritize demand, balancing business urgency with platform sustainability and capacity
- Collaborate with multi-functional teams (e.g., integrations, data, security) to deliver cohesive, end-to-end platform solutions
- Data & Reporting Solutions
- Design and deliver scalable reporting and data solutions, including Advanced, Matrix, and Composite reports, as part of the broader People data ecosystem
- Develop and maintain calculated fields and data structures to support both operational and analytical use cases
- Ensure accuracy, integrity, and consistency of data across Workday processes and outputs
- Delivery & Agile Execution
- Translate business needs into clearly defined user stories and technical solutions
- Participate actively in Agile delivery, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives
- Own and deliver assigned workstreams within sprint cycles, ensuring quality and alignment with expected outcomes
- Implement and support testing activities (unit, integration, UAT), ensuring solutions meet functional and technical expectations
- Platform Design & Continuous Improvement
- Find opportunities to improve platform scalability, performance, and maintainability
- Contribute to evolving platform design standards, patterns, and governance practices
- Drive incremental automation and simplification of manual or fragmented processes
- Continuously improve individual capability and contribute to team learning and development
- Governance, Compliance & Quality
- Ensure solutions meet data privacy, security, and audit requirements
- Follow established governance, release management, and change control practices
- Contribute to improving documentation, standards, and ways of working across the platform- Proven understanding of the Workday Core HCM data model and data flows across business processes
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments, with ownership of defined workstreams or sub-projects
- Ability to clearly articulate personal contributions to delivered solutions, including specific platform changes and outcomes
- Hands-on experience developing Workday reports (Advanced, Matrix, Composite) used in production environments
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing scalable configuration solutions, including business processes, calculated fields, and core system setup
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise platforms, including direct configuration and delivery of Workday solutions
- Proven track record to independently troubleshoot and resolve system issues across configuration, data, and reporting
- Experience translating business needs into system solutions, including evaluating trade-offs between speed, complexity, and long-term maintainability
- Demonstrates curiosity, continuous learning, and a proactive approach to improving both individual and team performance
- Operates independently while aligning with team standards and architectural principles
- Comfortable working in an evolving operating model, with a willingness to take ownership and expand capability
- Diligent, with a focus on quality, scalability, and sustainability
- Clear communicator who can bridge business and technical perspectives
- Strong platform approach, with the ability to balance functional understanding and technical design
- Practical and delivery-oriented, balancing speed with long-term maintainability
- Exposure to integrations (e.g., EIB, Core Connectors) and data interfaces
- Familiarity with additional Workday modules (e.g., Absence, Compensation, Talent)
- Experience working within global enterprise environments across multiple regions
- Experience with Workday Security configuration
- Experience contributing to platform standards, governance models, or design frameworks
