What they need

Primal 4x4 & Performance is a Charlotte shop built by people who love this industry. We build and upgrade Jeeps, Broncos, Toyotas, trucks and other performance vehicles, from suspension and V8 swaps to custom fabrication, and we run community trail events for the people who drive them. Some of our builds run over $150,000.

We are hiring an experienced technician who wants to do this kind of work and take it seriously. For the right person, this can grow into our shop foreman position.

This is not an entry level job. You should be able to work with little supervision.

WHO FITS HERE

This is a hands on, enthusiast shop. Our team lives and breathes trucks, Jeeps and performance builds, and our customers can tell. If you have no real passion for this industry, you will not fit in with our team and you will not succeed here. If you love the work and want to get better at it, you will be around people who do too.

WHAT WE NEED

  • Real experience repairing and installing parts on vehicles
  • Comfort doing basic remove and replace work every day, not just the big builds
  • Strong diagnostic skills, including in-depth electrical diagnosis. You can trace wiring problems, read wiring diagrams and use a multimeter and scope. You find the cause instead of replacing parts.
  • Your own professional scan tool, and you know how to use it
  • Your own tools, including a torque wrench set. Your tools stay organized and you know where everything is.
  • Good knowledge of suspension, steering, differentials and drivetrains
  • Alignment experience, no exceptions. You know the specs for lifted vehicles and how lift height, larger tires and aftermarket suspension change the setup.
  • Welding ability, or a real willingness to learn
  • Comfort with shop software and writing clear reports with photos and video. We use Tekmetric.
  • Willingness to do video inspections. We don't do these yet, but we are adding them, and you will be recording them for customers.
  • Organization on big projects
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation

HELPFUL TO HAVE

Fabrication, gear setup, V8 swaps, CNC or plasma table experience, or experience leading other techs.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Day to day, this job includes basic remove and replace work like brakes, maintenance and routine repairs, along with installs and diagnostics. These jobs are part of the role, and we expect them done well. As you show your skills, you will also move into full suspension builds, V8 swaps and bigger repairs. The right person ends up helping run the shop floor.

PAY AND BENEFITS

  • Paid on flagged hours, with a guaranteed minimum of 40 flagged hours every two week pay period. Techs who flag 40 or more hours a week can earn $60,000 to $100,000 a year, depending on skill.
  • Paid vacation
  • Paid sick time
  • Bereavement leave
  • Employee pricing on parts
  • Hands on training in regears, advanced alignments and welding
  • Interesting, high end builds and fabrication
  • A path to shop foreman

SCHEDULE

Your schedule is set, and we hold to it. We expect you to be on time every day. Please check your commute during rush hour before applying.

HOW TO APPLY

Please send a resume and a cover letter. A resume alone does not tell us enough about your skills, so we review applications with a cover letter first.

In your cover letter, please answer these:

  1. What is the hardest repair you have done, and why was it hard?

  2. What is the biggest build you have worked on, and what did you do on it?

  3. How many alignments have you done, on what equipment, and what do you do differently on a lifted vehicle?

  4. Do you weld, and what kind?

  5. Describe an electrical problem you diagnosed that other people could not solve, and how you found it.

  6. What tools do you own? Please include your tool boxes and roll carts and their sizes, plus your scan tool.

  7. What shop software have you used, and have you recorded customer videos or photos?

  8. How many hours a week do you flag at your current shop?

Thank you for your interest in Primal.
