What they need
Performance Engineer
Location: Northeast US (a short train ride from New York City)
Commercial-scale solar and battery storage
The Opportunity
Our client is a fast-growing commercial-scale solar company that turns warehouse rooftops, parking lots and brownfields into power-producing assets, feeding real megawatts into the country's most capacity-constrained grids. Since 2009 they have grown to own and operate more than 1 GW of solar across 30 states, serving hundreds of enterprise customers and tens of thousands of community solar subscribers.
In 2025 they closed a major partnership with a leading climate transition infrastructure investor. They are well capitalized, backed by strategic partners, and expanding into markets with supportive energy policy. This is a company defined by expertise and execution.
The Role
As Performance Engineer, you will be the person who knows how every asset is really performing. You will dig into production data, spot underperformance before anyone else does, and work with equipment and O&M partners to get megawatts back online. If you love turning raw data into decisions, this is your seat.
What you'll do
- Extract and validate data from the data acquisition system (DAS) provider, and turn it into clear performance reporting and analysis
- Run periodic system assessments and lead the performance onboarding of new projects
- Set up and program DAS software alongside O&M and technology partners
- Carry out performance testing, including capacity tests, on new projects
- Provide monitoring and diagnostic support to O&M partners
- Identify operational issues and drive them to resolution
- Calculate and analyze energy losses from equipment outages
- Supply data to the Customer Service team for reporting
- Support wider data analytics as performance needs evolve
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, math, physics or electrical engineering (a graduate degree is a bonus, not a requirement)
- 3 to 4 years of experience in production analytics, performance testing and system assessments of energy assets
- Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work across data in many formats
- Independence, plus the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with key stakeholders
- Flexibility in a fast-moving environment with changing priorities and information
- A system and product-level mindset
- Self-starter drive, excellent communication and strong attention to detail
Base salary - $120k-$135k + bonus + equity
