About Me

I am a 53-year-old wheelchair user living in North Bolton. I have a rare muscle-wasting condition and work three days a week, including two days from home.

I am looking for a friendly, reliable female Personal Assistant to support me with day-to-day activities. The aim is to help me stay independent, continue working, and enjoy an active life.

About the Role

This is a varied and rewarding role. You will provide support with personal care, household tasks, and social activities.

You may occasionally be asked to cover additional shifts when other PAs are on annual leave or when extra support is needed.

No two days are the same, but the role is always about providing practical support while respecting my independence, dignity, and personal choices.

Full training will be provided where needed.

Key Responsibilities

Personal Care

· Helping me get up and out of bed

· Supporting transfers to and from my wheelchair (no hoist required)

· Assisting with showering, dressing, and hair care

· Helping with gentle arm and leg stretches (training provided)

Household Tasks

· Making beds and general tidying

· Loading and unloading the dishwasher

· Laundry and light ironing

· Preparing meals, snacks, and drinks

Social & Community Support

· Accompanying me to rehabilitation swimming sessions (you will need to be able to swim)

· Attending appointments

· Supporting shopping trips and leisure activities

· Helping with occasional errands such as posting letters or parcels

·

What I’m looking for:

Someone who is:

  • Reliable and punctual
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Trustworthy and respectful
  • Comfortable working independently
  • A good listener and communicator
  • Organised and practical
  • Positive, with a good sense of humour

Most importantly, I am looking for someone who respects privacy, dignity, and personal boundaries.

Skills & Experience

· Female applicants only (genuine occupational requirement).

· Able to provide a DBS check

· Full, clean driving licence.

· Experience supporting a disabled person is desirable but not essential. Full training can be provided for the right person.

· Moving and Handling training (or willingness to undertake).

· Non-smoker / non-vaper preferred.

Typical Hours:

Current support hours include:

· Tuesday: 8:15am – 9:15am

· Thursday: 8:30am – 3:00pm

· Friday: 8:15am – 2:00pm

Flexible working can be discussed, and hours may be arranged around your availability.

NB. An additional 12 hours are available; however, they are funded via Access to Work – This can be discussed during the application process.

How to Apply

Send your CV to [email protected], quoting reference BB095CPCV.

A short covering letter is required. Applications submitted without a covering letter may not be shortlisted.

In the first paragraph of your covering letter, please confirm:

  • That you are female (this role is exempt under the Equality Act 2010 and has a genuine occupational requirement for a female PA)
  • Whether you are confident in and comfortable with swimming
  • Whether you hold a full UK driving licence

Please also tell me a little about:

  • Why you are interested in the role
  • Any relevant experience you have
  • Any transferable skills or personal qualities you feel would make you a good Personal Assistant

Stage 1: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an informal 10-15 minute telephone or video conversation. This provides an opportunity to discuss the role, answer any questions, and explore whether the position is a good fit for both parties.

Stage 2: Candidates selected to progress will be invited to a 30-40 minute face-to-face interview.

If you would like to find out more about the role before applying, informal enquiries are very welcome.

Additional Information

This role includes a three-month probation period, with a review after six weeks.

During the probation period, either party can end the arrangement by giving one week's notice.

If you're reliable, caring and looking for a rewarding role where you can make a real difference to someone's independence and quality of life, I'd love to hear from you.

Pay: £13.45 per hour
