I’m looking for a Personal Assistant who enjoys a good conversation, can help me with everyday tasks and personal care and enable my wife to have a break from her caring role. The best match will be someone that I feel comfortable with.

A bit about me

I am a gentleman in my 80’s who enjoys having a good conversation/ Rugby was a big part of my career. I also interested in football, and I used to love exploring antique shops and auctions. I may not be able to get out to them now but I still enjoy talking about things that interest me.

I have a number of health conditions and have been diagnosed with Dementia. I use a wheelchair around the house, can only stand for a short time and do not use a hoist. All the support will take place within my home.

Experience in care is much less important to me than kindness, reliability, and that we get on well.

The ideal candidate will be:

The ideal candidate will be warm, reliable and patient, with the confidence to start a conversation and get to know me as a person. You don’t need to be a rugby or antiques expert, but a genuine interest in listening and chatting will go a long way.

You’ll help me with everyday tasks, meal preparation and some personal care including showering, whilst respecting my choices and independence.

I can have difficult moments so I would appreciate someone who can remain calm, understanding and good humoured. A good personality match matters more to me that years of experience.

Days and Times required:

7 hours per week which will include support during the weekends – exact days and times to be agreed with the successful individual

Necessary Training (can be completed during induction into the role):

• PA Induction certificate which will form part of the induction into the role
• Dementia Awareness

Hourly Rate:

£16.85 per hour

Please note the position is funded by the Flintshire County Council Direct Payment scheme.

You would be employed directly by the family, and not by Flintshire County Council.
