Personal Care Assistant (PCA) — 1st Shift

The Oaks of Alamance · Burlington, NC

PART-TIME · 1ST SHIFT · 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM · EVERY OTHER WEEKEND

About Us

The Oaks of Alamance is an assisted living and memory care community in Burlington, NC. We're part of The Affordable Senior Housing Foundation, and we're building a team that takes real pride in how our residents are cared for.

About the Role

We're hiring part-time Personal Care Assistants for first shift, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, every other weekend. You'll provide hands-on daily care to residents in our assisted living and memory care units, working alongside medication aides and a supervisor on every shift.

First shift covers two meals — breakfast at 8:00 and lunch at 12:00 — plus the afternoon snack. It is the busiest shift in the building, and the one where residents are most awake and engaged.

What You'll Do

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living — bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility

  • Get residents up, dressed, and groomed in time for breakfast and lunch

  • Complete all assigned showers

  • Assist with transfers and repositioning, including safe use of mobility equipment

  • Escort and assist residents to and from the dining room for breakfast and lunch

  • Assist during meal service — positioning, feeding assistance where needed, and keeping walkways clear of wheelchairs and walkers

  • Ensure residents receive their afternoon snack

  • Encourage fluids and hydration between meals

  • Complete toileting rounds before and after meals

  • Complete two-hour rounds and respond promptly to call lights

  • Reposition and turn residents according to care plans

  • Escort and assist residents to scheduled activities

  • Make beds and manage resident laundry and linens

  • Clean wheelchairs and mobility equipment

  • Restock hall supplies — briefs, gloves, wipes, and personal care items

  • Sanitize call buttons, handrails, and high-touch surfaces

  • Assist residents in settling for afternoon rest

  • Submit work orders for maintenance issues found during rounds

  • Complete two-hour check sheets, assignment sheets, and end-of-day documentation accurately and on time

  • Complete skin assessments and all charting in black ink

  • Report changes in resident condition to your supervisor or the Resident Care Coordinator promptly

  • Communicate resident updates clearly at shift change

  • Maintain resident privacy and dignity, and follow all HIPAA requirements

  • Keep resident areas clean, safe, and free of hazards

  • Other duties as assigned

Schedule

  • First shift, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

  • Every other weekend

  • Part-time, consistent scheduling — we build the schedule in advance and stick to it

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Prior experience as a PCA, CNA, caregiver, or in a similar direct-care role

  • Reliable transportation to and from Burlington, NC

  • Ability to lift, transfer, and assist residents safely

  • Dependability — showing up on time, every scheduled shift, matters here

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and required health screenings as mandated for North Carolina adult care homes

  • Must meet all state training and registry requirements for personal care aides in an adult care home

Preferred

  • Current CPR certification (we provide training if you don't have it)

  • Experience in memory care or dementia care

  • Nurse Aide I listing on the NC registry

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and transfer residents, including assistance up to 50 lbs

  • Standing, walking, bending, and reaching for the majority of an 8-hour shift

  • Ability to respond quickly in an emergency

Reports To

Reports to the Resident Care Coordinator and shift supervisor.

What We're Not Looking For

This role is not a fit for someone looking for a slow shift. First shift is hands-on from the moment you walk in — morning care, showers, two meal services, and activities.

What We Offer

  • Consistent part-time hours with a predictable schedule

  • Paid training, including CPR certification

  • A leadership team that is present in the building and accessible

  • Real opportunity to advance — we promote from within, and we're actively growing

How to Apply

Apply directly through this posting. We review applications daily and move quickly on qualified candidates.
