What they need
About us
Atelier Marquise is an in-home personal chef service for busy Greater Boston households. Every week we plan, shop, cook in our clients’ own kitchens, package and label the food, clean up, and leave the household ready for the week.
Our promise to clients is simple: we make sure feeding their household is handled. That means they never have to manage us. The company remembers their preferences, follows their house rules, and gets the details right every single week.
We cook for every kind of household: families with young kids, athletes, people managing allergies and health goals, plant-based and omnivore homes.
The role
We are looking for a personal chef to run weekly sessions independently in our clients’ homes and to become a lead voice on our small team. You will own the quality of each household you cook for: the food, the kitchen you leave behind, and the trust that lets a family hand you their keys.
This is not restaurant line work, and it is not catering. It is a different discipline: one fan instead of a hood system, someone else’s pans and pantry, a cat that must not get out the front door, a child who will only eat the bok choy if it is cut bite-size. If that kind of precision energizes you, read on.
What you will do
- Run 3 to 4 hour cooking sessions solo in clients’ homes, producing 3 to 5 dishes per household per week
- Prepare for each session in advance: study the menu, hand-write and scale your recipes, review the client brief and house rules
- Build shopping lists and do the grocery shopping for each household, choosing produce that will last the client through the week
- Cook to a high standard on unfamiliar home equipment, adjusting seasoning, sauce and texture so every dish tastes right on day three, not just day one
- Handle allergies and dietary needs with zero margin for error
- Package, portion and label food so the client only has to open the fridge
- Leave every kitchen as clean as or cleaner than you found it
- Communicate clearly with clients and with your head chef, and turn feedback into better food the following week
- Lead new-client first visits and kitchen orientations, suggest menu ideas, and help train and mentor newer chefs as the team grows
- Work private events and special occasions when available (optional, paid separately)
What we are looking for
- 2+ years of professional cooking experience in restaurants and/or private homes
- Solid technique across cuisines and proteins; comfort with plant-based cooking is a plus
- Experience cooking for allergies, intolerances, and special diets (gluten-free, egg-free, nut-free, low-sugar, low-sodium)
- A palate you trust and the habit of tasting everything the way the client will eat it
- Obsessive cleanliness and organization.
- You check the sink corners with your fingers, not just your eyes
- Calm, professional, discreet presence in private homes, with kids, pets, and working-from-home clients around
- Clear written communication. You read instructions fully, ask good questions early, and answer feedback without getting defensive
- Reliability above everything. You show up on time, prepared, every week
Requirements
- Current ServSafe Food Handler or Food Protection Manager certificate, plus allergen awareness training (or willingness to complete both before your first solo session)
- Valid driver’s license and a reliable car (sessions are spread across several towns)
- Smartphone for photos, receipts, and messages
- Your own knife kit, white chef jackets, non-slip kitchen shoes kept only for indoor use in clients’ homes
- Ability to lift 40 lbs, stand for 5+ hours, and carry groceries up stairs
- Willingness to complete a background check (clients trust us with their homes)
Nice to have
- Culinary school training (CIA, Johnson & Wales or similar)
- Fine dining or high-volume kitchen background
- Event or private dinner experience
Schedule and pay
- Part-time and full-time applicants welcome: 2 to 10 sessions per week, based on your availability and our client schedule
- Weekday sessions, typically Monday to Thursday, daytime
- Rate: $140 per session (Typically two sessions a day.)
- You shop for each household with a company credit card, so you never pay for groceries out of pocket
- Independent contractor (1099) engagement. No non-compete: you are free to keep or take on other culinary work
How to apply
- Send your resume and a short note (one paragraph is enough) and in your note, tell us about one household or guest you cooked for and one thing you changed because of their feedback.
- Our process: (1) an interview with the founder, (2) a second interview with the team, (3) a paid trial session.
Atelier Marquise welcomes applicants of every background. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or any other protected status.
Pay: Up to $300.00 per day
Benefits:
- Flexible schedule
Work Location: In person
