Providence Mutual is seeking a motivated and relationship-focused Personal Lines Underwriter to join our Underwriting team. This role is responsible for evaluating, selecting, and pricing personal lines insurance risks while managing a territory of independent agency partners. The successful candidate will combine strong underwriting judgment, analytical thinking, and relationship-building skills to support profitable growth and exceptional service.

What You'll Do

• Evaluate, price, and develop coverage terms for Personal Lines policies.
• Review new business applications and determine appropriate underwriting actions, including accepting, modifying, or declining risks.
• Maintain a profitable book of business within assigned underwriting authority.
• Manage a territory of independent agents to achieve growth and profitability objectives.
• Build strong working relationships with agencies and communicate underwriting decisions effectively.
• Partner with Underwriting Analysts and Business Development Managers to support profitable book growth.
• Meet production, profitability, and quality goals.
• Participate in agency visits, meetings, audits, and other marketing activities.
• Deliver product knowledge and training to agency partners.
• Contribute to process improvements, workflow enhancements, and best-practice development.
• Serve as a positive team contributor and advocate for continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3-5 years of Personal Lines underwriting experience.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong negotiation and relationship-building abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and multiple business systems.
• Valid driver's license with ability to travel occasionally for agency visits and meetings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate in Personal Insurance (API) designation.
• CPCU or pursuit of other professional insurance designations.
• Experience underwriting a broad range of personal lines products
