Position: Personal Trainer
Location: Pegasus Treatment Center – Burlington, NJ
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Position Summary

Pegasus Treatment Center is seeking an energetic, motivated, and compassionate Personal Trainer to provide structured fitness programming for clients participating in substance use and mental health treatment services. The Personal Trainer will facilitate both group fitness classes and individualized training sessions designed to improve physical health, reduce stress, promote healthy coping skills, and support overall recovery and wellness.

This role plays an important part in helping clients establish healthy routines, improve self-confidence, and develop lifelong wellness habits that contribute to sustained recovery.

Essential Responsibilities

• Lead daily group fitness classes for clients of varying fitness levels.
• Conduct one-on-one personal training sessions tailored to individual client needs, abilities, and recovery goals.
• Develop safe, engaging, and effective exercise programs focused on strength, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, mobility, and overall wellness.
• Provide instruction on proper exercise techniques and equipment usage.
• Monitor client participation and ensure all activities are conducted safely.
• Modify exercises and fitness plans to accommodate physical limitations, injuries, or medical restrictions.
• Maintain a positive, encouraging, and supportive environment that promotes client engagement and motivation.
• Collaborate with clinical and medical staff to support client wellness goals when appropriate.
• Assist clients in establishing realistic fitness goals and tracking progress throughout treatment.
• Educate clients on the benefits of exercise, healthy lifestyle habits, stress management, and physical wellness in recovery.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the fitness center, gym equipment, and workout areas.
• Conduct routine inspections of fitness equipment and report maintenance concerns.
• Ensure compliance with facility safety policies and procedures.
• Complete required documentation regarding attendance, participation, and fitness programming activities.

Qualifications

• Certified Personal Trainer through a nationally recognized organization (NASM, ACE, ISSA, ACSM, NSCA, or equivalent).
• Current CPR and First Aid certification.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or a related field preferred.
• Experience leading group fitness classes and providing individual training sessions.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and motivational coaching skills.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying fitness levels.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality in a behavioral healthcare setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in behavioral health, addiction treatment, mental health, healthcare, or wellness settings.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed fitness approaches.
• Experience developing wellness and fitness programs for special populations.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to demonstrate exercises and fitness techniques.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift and move fitness equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35.0 per week
