This role is responsible for the clinical oversight, accurate verification, and quality assurance of non-sterile customized medications (including high-volume GLP-1 formulations, hormone replacement therapies, and functional medicine). Working closely with the Director of Pharmacy Operations and the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC), you will supervise compounding technicians, optimize daily workflows, and ensure flawless adherence to state and federal regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Verification & Quality Assurance: Perform final clinical and technical verification of compounded non-sterile preparations, ensuring accurate ingredient weights, formulation integrity, and correct labeling.
- Workflow Supervision: Oversee and direct frontline compounding technicians and support staff to maintain efficient order-to-dispensing cycle times in a high-volume environment.
- Regulatory Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to USP <795> and USP <800> standards, FDA 503A guidelines, DEA controlled substance regulations, and state board requirements.
- Clinical Review & Consultation: Review master formula records, approve beyond-use date (BUD) assignments, and provide accurate information to prescribing clinics and patients regarding customized therapies.
- System & Data Management: Utilize primary pharmacy platforms (Compounder Rx, Lifefile, and Pestle Rx) to track workflow metrics, document compliance logs, and ensure meticulous record-keeping.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited institution.
- Licensure: Active Pharmacist license in good standing with the State of Kansas (Missouri licensure is highly preferred, or must be willing to obtain promptly).
- Skills: Strong foundation in pharmaceutical calculations, excellent clinical judgment, and a compliance-first mindset. Proactive problem-solver who thrives in an operationally driven, structured environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in a 503A or 503B compounding pharmacy environment.
- Strong familiarity with GLP-1, HRT, and specialized non-sterile formulations.
- Experience navigating compounding software systems (e.g., Compounder Rx, Lifefile).
