Pharmacy Cashier

Position Title: Pharmacy Cashier – Retail Pharmacy

Department: Pharmacy

Reports To: Pharmacy Technician IV – Lead Pharmacy Technician (Retail) / Pharmacist

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary Range: $17.00 - $20.44/hr.

Position Summary

The Pharmacy Cashier is responsible for supporting retail pharmacy operations by providing excellent customer service and accurately processing transactions. This role assists with front-end operations, inventory of over-the-counter (OTC) products, and maintaining a clean and organized retail environment.

Essential Functions

• Greet customers and provide courteous, professional service
• Accurately process transactions including cash, credit, and other forms of payment
• Maintain and balance cash register and related documentation
• Assist customers with OTC product location and general inquiries
• Stock, order, and maintain appropriate levels of OTC inventory
• Ensure retail area is clean, organized, and properly merchandised
• Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines
• Support pharmacy staff with non-clinical tasks as needed
• Demonstrate flexibility and ability to function in a fast-paced environment
• Perform other duties as assigned

Position Standards

• Performs duties under general supervision
• Focuses on customer service and front-end retail operations
• Does not perform pharmacy technician duties or medication preparation
• Maintains accuracy in cash handling and transactions

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Experience: Previous cashier or retail experience preferred
• Licensure/Certifications: None required

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods throughout the workday

Working Conditions

• Work performed in a retail pharmacy environment
• Frequent interaction with customers and pharmacy staff
• Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
• May require evening, weekend, and holiday shifts
• Exposure to medications and retail products
