PhD Research Scientist

About the role

We are looking for a highly passionate and experienced R&D Specialist (Microfluidics & Organ-on-a-Chip) to lead our next-generation tissue engineering and bio-chip platforms. In this role, you will be at the forefront of combining microfluidic engineering with advanced bio-imaging and barrier models, with a primary focus on developing and optimizing Skin-on-a-Chip products. You will independently drive innovative R&D projects from initial CAD modeling to biological validation and productization.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end design, fluidic simulation, rapid prototyping, and fabrication of microfluidic devices and organ-on-a-chip platforms using AutoCAD, Fusion 360, or SolidWorks
• Establish and optimize dynamic perfusion systems, microfluidic pumps, and real-time Transepithelial Electrical Resistance (TEER) monitoring platforms to assess barrier integrity
• Drive the R&D roadmap for skin-on-a-chip models, focusing on epidermal/dermal barrier function, drug/cosmetic permeability testing, and toxicity assays
• Independently lead R&D projects from concept validation through execution, troubleshooting, and translation into scalable commercial products
• Partner closely with cell biology, engineering, and product management teams to prepare technical documentation, IP filings, and experimental protocols

About you

• Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Microelectronics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Biotechnology, or a related field
• Minimum 2+ years of hands-on R&D experience in microfluidics, organ-on-a-chip, or tissue-on-a-chip systems
• Expert user of AutoCAD, Fusion 360, or equivalent CAD/CAM modeling software for micro-patterning and mold design
• Proficient in microfluidic fabrication methods (PDMS soft lithography, micromachining, or 3D printing)
• Direct hands-on expertise with TEER measurements and dynamic fluidic perfusion systems
• Strong troubleshooting skills in cell-chip integration, flow dynamics, and bubble management
• Prior experience with Skin-on-a-Chip development or skin barrier models is highly preferred
• Proven track record of independently managing projects, proactive problem-solving, and strong communication skills in English
