Phlebotomist

• Identify the patient using two identifiers by comparing patient information on the requisition to the patient’s identification before venipuncture
• Perform venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently
• Know correct color-top tube and blood volume needed for tests and assist in the Clinical Laboratory as needed
• Perform bleeding time tests, blood cultures, and blood sample collection
• Maintain blood collection room requirements, cleanliness and decorum
• Stock the laboratory with necessary supplies
• Ensure trays and tools are clean and sanitized
• Perform clerical duties such as filing, assisting technologists, and collecting data
• Complete reports when hazardous incidents occur and consult with laboratory supervisor
• Handle complications from improperly drawn blood, patient allergies, or other patient conditions
• Comply with OSH and infection control policies, standards, and procedures
• Work in accordance with documented OSH procedures and fulfill specific responsibilities
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
• Report OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, and assist with preparation of risk assessments and incident reports
• Comply with waste management procedures and policies
• Attend applicable OSH and infection control training programs, mock drills, and awareness programs
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety systems

Desired Candidate Profile

• Valid DOH License/Pass result as Phlebotomist / Lab technician
• Diploma in Lab technology or Phlebotomy from a recognized university/institution
• Minimum two (2) years experience as Phlebotomist in a Medical Laboratory
• Valid home country license as Phlebotomist / Lab technician
• Fluent in spoken & written English; Arabic desirable
• Valid BLS Certification from AHA
