Phlebotomist (UTHP MARC Pathology)

Job Summary: Under general supervision, responsible for providing phlebotomy services for the phlebotomy team.

Job Duties:

• Properly identifies patient according to policy, draws blood samples, labels specimens and sends to laboratory for analysis.
• Maintains records of tests performed and samples taken.
• Generates patient collection lists and labels, ensures the correct test are collected by using inquiry mode, verifying collection of all specimens, and labels STATS with stickers.
• Checks collection batches and overdue lists frequently and ensures that all orders are promptly collected.
• Performs special tests to include clotting time, bleeding time and glucose tolerance tests as needed and reports results.
• Inventories supplies, equipment and requisitions as needed.
• Stocks workstation with necessary supplies.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education: High school diploma or GED is required.

Experience: One (1) year experience drawing blood specimens; or, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved is required.
