What they need
Come and build software with a company that's determined to make shipping easier than anyone else.
About Us
Shiptheory is a leading SaaS ecommerce shipping management platform that helps retailers streamline their fulfilment process through innovative, time-saving and intelligent software, removing friction and human intervention wherever possible. At Shiptheory, automation is king. We work with incredible brands such as Minirig, Wiper and True, Scrub Daddy and more.
We are continually looking for opportunities to grow our product and team. We have built Shiptheory without external funding by remaining lean, moving quickly, and working collaboratively with our users to build a platform that adds immediate value and solves problems.
Our Culture
We have a bias for action over conversation and stay closely aligned with our values, which centre on results and freedom. The Shiptheory team works in an open, democratic environment where everyone can have a direct and meaningful impact on the software we build and the thousands of customers who rely on it.
We stay objective and make decisions based on data. We learn from our mistakes, build on our strengths, and are honest about our weaknesses.
About The Opportunity
We're looking for PHP developers of medium and senior expierence to join our technical team onsite in Bristol , with salary dependent on experience.
As a developer at Shiptheory, you’ll work across our technology stack, including our core PHP/Linux/Apache application, MySQL databases, mission-critical Python messaging systems, and cloud infrastructure.
Your work will range from fixing bugs and building new features to designing scalable systems, improving infrastructure and deployment pipelines, and working with the wider team to continuously improve the Shiptheory platform.
Depending on your experience, you may also review code, mentor other developers, contribute to technical decision-making, and help shape our engineering practices and architecture.
What You’ll Need
You will need to be passionate about building PHP based web applications with a focus on APIs with a minimum of 3 years developing commercial-grade PHP and will have worked on large, high volume transactional systems.
You must be able to write Python at a respectable level as well as HTML, CSS and JavaScript. You will also need to be able to adapt quickly, and open to learning new languages.
- Experience with CakePHP (or another MVC based framework).
- Knowledge of SOAP, GraphQL, RESTful APIs.
- An understanding of relational database design, normalization and indexing.
- An understanding of e-commerce or experience working within e-commerce or shipping would be a valuable asset but is not essential.
- While you don’t need to be a world-class Dev-Ops, an intermediate understanding of cloud computing techniques and best-practises is required.
- Enthusiasm for developer efficiency and smooth CI/CD pipelines is a given as a senior; the right solution wins over ego everytime.
We’re a small, solution-focused bootstrapped team where everyone gets stuck in, takes ownership and helps wherever they can.
How to Apply
In your application email, please include:
- A link to something you've built or are proud of. A Github repo or a picture of a model kit car, anything you're proud of.
- An up-to date CV.
- A line or two about what excites you the most about this job advert.
- A line or two about what worries you about this job advert.
- Whether you currently have the right to work in the UK and whether you will require visa sponsorship now or in the future.
- If it's not immediately clear that you're close to Bristol, explain your plans for working onsite in BS1.
If you look like a good fit on paper, we’ll schedule a short informal call where you can tell us more about yourself, ask us any questions you have and we will explain a little more about what we’re trying to achieve and exactly what part you will be playing.
If everyone is happy after the call, we’ll then invite you in for a more formal interview which will include technical questioning.
Shiptheory is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all of our employees.
