Park Avenue Medicine & Surgery
Location: Park Avenue, New York, NY
Position: Physician Assistant – Medication Management / Established Patient Care
About Park Avenue Medicine & Surgery
Park Avenue Medicine & Surgery is a multidisciplinary medical and surgical practice located on Park Avenue in Manhattan. We provide university-quality care in a private-practice environment, with specialties including:
- Medical: Pain Management, Sports Medicine, Primary Care, Neurology, Podiatry, and Clinical Psychology
- Rehabilitation: Physical Therapy, Chiropractic, Acupuncture, and Rehabilitation
- Aesthetic & Wellness – Park Avenue Glow: Aesthetics, IV Therapy, and Plastic Surgery
Our facility includes an accredited Class C operating room and comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic resources, allowing patients to receive coordinated care within one practice.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to assist with the longitudinal management of established patients, with a particular focus on medication management, including controlled medications where clinically appropriate and legally permitted.
This is primarily a maintenance and follow-up position. Patients will generally have already undergone evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication stabilization by an Attending Physician.
The Physician Assistant will help provide ongoing follow-up care pursuant to established treatment plans, clinical protocols, New York State requirements, and the PA's authorized scope of practice.
This is not primarily a new-patient diagnostic role and is well suited for a PA who is comfortable managing established patients requiring careful medication monitoring and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Conduct follow-up visits for established patients
- Manage ongoing medications pursuant to physician-established treatment plans
- Prescribe, renew, adjust, or discontinue medications when clinically appropriate and within the PA's authorized scope of practice
- Participate in the management of patients receiving controlled medications in accordance with applicable federal and New York State requirements
- Review medication effectiveness, adverse effects, compliance, and changes in clinical status
- Review prescription-monitoring information when required
- Review toxicology testing, medication compliance, and other monitoring data
- Identify patients requiring escalation, medication modification, tapering, additional diagnostic evaluation, or Attending Physician reassessment
- Maintain thorough and timely medical documentation
- Coordinate care with the Attending Physician and other members of our multidisciplinary team
- Provide both in-person and telehealth follow-up care, when clinically appropriate
- Follow established practice policies regarding controlled-substance prescribing, monitoring, and patient safety
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Active New York State Physician Assistant license
- Current NCCPA certification
- Active DEA registration required
- Ability to prescribe controlled substances within applicable New York State and federal requirements
- Experience in Pain Medicine, Primary Care, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Orthopedics, Neurology, Internal Medicine, or medication-management practice preferred
- Strong clinical judgment and documentation skills
- Comfortable managing established patients with chronic medical conditions and complex medication regimens
- Familiarity with prescription-monitoring programs and controlled-substance compliance strongly preferred
- Professional, reliable, and comfortable working within a physician-led multidisciplinary practice
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is clinically experienced, conservative, organized, and comfortable assuming responsibility for maintenance care after an Attending Physician has established the diagnosis and treatment plan.
We are particularly interested in a PA who understands that successful medication management requires more than simply issuing refills. The role requires careful assessment of clinical response, compliance, safety, medication interactions, monitoring requirements, and circumstances requiring physician reassessment.
Experience caring for patients receiving chronic pain medications or other controlled medications is highly desirable.
Practice Environment
Our Physician Assistants work alongside physicians and specialists in:
- Pain Management
- Sports and Musculoskeletal Medicine
- Primary Care
- Neurology
- Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
- Physical Therapy
- Interventional and Surgical Care
The position offers access to a sophisticated Park Avenue clinical environment while maintaining the efficiency and flexibility of private practice.
Why Join Park Avenue Medicine & Surgery?
