What they need
Silicon Photonics PIC Design Engineer / Technical Lead
San Jose, CA | Remote/Hybrid
IC Resources is working on an opportunity with an early stage photonics company developing advanced silicon photonics and heterogeneous integration technologies for next generation computing, optical connectivity and sensing applications.
They're looking for an experienced Silicon Photonics PIC Design Engineer / Technical Lead to take ownership of complex photonic integrated circuit development, from initial design and simulation through layout, tapeout and post silicon validation.
This is a hands on technical position with significant ownership and the opportunity to influence the development of a core photonics platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and optimize active and passive PIC components, including waveguides, couplers, MMIs, modulators, photodetectors and heaters.
- Develop highly integrated PIC architectures for high-speed optical I/O and wavelength-division multiplexing applications.
- Own PIC layout, verification, DRC/LVS and GDS tapeout preparation using foundry PDKs.
- Perform optical, electrical and thermal simulations to optimize device performance and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with electronics, packaging, fabrication and test teams throughout development.
- Support post-silicon characterization, debugging, design iterations and productization.
What We're Looking For:
- Master's or PhD in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of hands-on silicon photonics PIC design experience.
- Strong experience with photonic simulation tools such as Lumerical, COMSOL or RSoft.
- Experience with PIC layout tools such as KLayout, IPKISS, Cadence or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience taking PIC designs through tapeout and validation.
- Strong understanding of device physics, foundry PDKs and manufacturable PIC design.
Highly Desirable:
- High-speed modulators (MRM/MZM) and photodetectors.
- Heterogeneous III-V/silicon integration.
- Dense WDM architectures and optical transceivers.
- Co-packaged optics and advanced optical interconnects.
- Experience working in early stage or high ownership engineering environments.
Why Consider It?
The opportunity to take real technical ownership, work across the full PIC development lifecycle, and help shape an emerging photonics platform with applications in advanced computing and optical connectivity.
Flexible working arrangements are available depending on location and team requirements, alongside competitive compensation and meaningful equity participation.
If your background aligns, feel free to reach out directly or send me your resume for a confidential discussion.
