What they need
About Fergbaker:
Located in the heart of Queenstown, Fergbaker has become a destination in its own right. While many people know us for our famous neighbours, Fergburger and the wider Ferg Group, Fergbaker has built its own reputation for producing exceptional breads, pastries and pies using quality ingredients and traditional techniques.
As our team grows, we have an opportunity for a Pie Chef to join us. From our slow-cooked pie fillings to our signature pastry, every pie is made with care using quality ingredients and recipes we've refined over many years. Working in a high-volume production kitchen, you'll help produce one of Queenstown's most iconic food offerings while working alongside a skilled team who are passionate about quality.
This role is ideal for an experienced chef looking to move away from restaurant service and into a structured production environment, or an experienced food prepper or kitchen professional ready to develop their skills in pie making. If you enjoy early starts, working hard with a great team and taking pride in producing exceptional food, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll be Doing:
Working alongside an experienced team, you'll be responsible for producing our award-winning pies from scratch, helping deliver the consistency and quality that Fergbaker is known for.
- Preparing and cooking pie fillings from scratch
- Producing pastry products to tested recipe standards
- Accurately weighing and measuring ingredients
- Operating bakery equipment and pastry machinery
- Monitoring product quality throughout the production process
- Working efficiently within a busy production environment
- Maintaining excellent food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards
- Supporting a positive team culture and contributing ideas for continual improvement
What We're Looking For:
- A recognised cookery qualification (NZQA Level 4 or equivalent) is preferred
- At least 2 years' experience in a commercial kitchen or food production environment
- A passion for producing high-quality food from scratch
- Experience working in a fast-paced production environment
- A positive attitude and strong team ethic
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in your work
- Availability to work a full-time roster, including shifts starting from 4.30am
Why join Fergbaker?
- Competitive pay, depending on experience, with higher rates considered for exceptional candidates
- Full-time position, minimum 30hours per week
- Early starts and early finishes
- Genuine opportunities for career progression as the Ferg Group continues to grow
- Work alongside an experienced and passionate team
- Employee discounts across the Ferg Group
- Birthday Burger, work anniversary gifts and staff social events
- Employee referral bonus programme
- A supportive workplace where many of our team members have built long-term careers
