The Peninsula Health Care District Health & Fitness Center is a community-focused facility dedicated to helping older adults stay active, independent, and connected. Through group exercise classes, personalized fitness guidance, and wellness programs, we provide a welcoming, supportive environment where members can build strength, improve balance and mobility, and enhance their quality of life.

Responsibilities

• Lead safe, engaging, and well-structured Pilates classes.
• Teach exercises that improve core strength, posture, flexibility, balance, mobility, and overall functional movement.
• Provide appropriate exercise modifications and progressions for different fitness levels and abilities.
• Offer alternatives for participants with limited mobility, joint concerns, previous injuries, or difficulty getting to and from the floor.
• Incorporate standing, seated, and mat-based exercises when appropriate.
• Clearly demonstrate exercises and provide easy-to-understand verbal instruction and technique cues.
• Monitor participants throughout class and provide corrections to promote safe movement and proper form.
• Create a positive, welcoming, and supportive class environment.
• Arrive prepared and on time and assist with basic class setup and equipment organization.
• Communicate participant concerns, injuries, incidents, or equipment issues to Fitness Center staff.
• Follow Fitness Center safety procedures and organizational policies.

Qualifications

• Current Pilates instructor certification from a recognized training organization.
• Current CPR/AED certification.
• Previous experience teaching group Pilates classes.
• Strong understanding of Pilates principles, proper body mechanics, posture, and exercise technique.
• Ability to modify exercises for older adults and participants with varying levels of strength, mobility, and balance.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Reliable, professional, and comfortable working with a diverse community.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with older adults or active-aging populations.
• Background in exercise science, kinesiology, physical education, rehabilitation, or a related field.
• Experience teaching participants with mobility limitations, chronic conditions, joint replacements, or previous injuries.
• Additional certifications in yoga, barre, balance, senior fitness, or other group fitness formats.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal instructor is personable, patient, safety-conscious, and able to make Pilates approachable without sacrificing quality of instruction. We value instructors who can challenge more capable participants while providing thoughtful modifications so that members with different abilities can successfully participate in the same class.

Experience working with older adults and an understanding of functional movement, fall prevention, balance, posture, and safe exercise progression are especially valuable.

Pay: $55.00 - $65.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 1.0 per week
