Pilot/Escort Driver

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and vigilant Pilot/Escort Driver to ensure the safe and efficient movement of oversized or specialized vehicles, equipment, and freight across various routes. This role involves providing expert escort services for heavy or wide-load transports, adhering to all safety protocols, traffic regulations, and route requirements. The ideal candidate will possess excellent driving skills, strong communication abilities, and a keen eye for safety to facilitate smooth deliveries while maintaining exceptional customer service standards. Duties

• Safely operate escort vehicles alongside oversized or heavy transports, ensuring compliance with all traffic laws and safety regulations
• Navigate complex routes using GPS navigation systems and fleet tracking tools to optimize delivery times and route efficiency
• Assist with load security, including manual handling and the use of pallet jacks or forklifts when necessary
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and law enforcement using mobile devices to coordinate movements and relay important information
• Monitor road conditions and weather impacts, adjusting routes as needed to maintain safety during adverse weather conditions
• Escort vehicles through congested or sensitive areas such as construction zones or urban environments, ensuring minimal disruption
• Conduct routine vehicle inspections, including checking air brakes, manual transmissions, and other critical systems before each shift

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record(contingent); commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred but not mandatory depending on route requirements
• Experience operating standard passenger cars, pickup trucks, commercial vehicles, or heavy haul equipment in various environments
• Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, fleet GPS tracking, and route planning software
• Knowledge of traffic regulations, safety protocols, air brake systems, manual transmissions, and safe lifting practices
• Prior experience in commercial truck driving, freight transportation, shuttle driving or bus driving is highly desirable
• Ability to perform heavy lifting and manual handling tasks safely; experience with forklift or pallet jack operation is a plus
• Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members and clients effectively
• Ability to drive in adverse weather conditions and handle challenging routes confidently
• Beginning resources are needed to get operating as far as equipment and insurance coverage
