What they need

What to Expect

The Self Perform Mechanical Pipe Welder is a skilled craft professional who welds and fits industrial process and utility piping under Foreman direction. This role executes stainless steel, carbon steel, and other common industrial steel piping work per work packages, isometrics, weld procedures, and project quality standards. Success means code-compliant weld quality, proper fit-up, and productive install that keeps process piping fronts moving. This role will be Reno local and will require travel to multiple job sites throughout the Reno Region.

What You'll Do

  • Weld stainless steel, carbon steel, and other industrial steel process and utility piping systems per approved WPS/PQR, drawings, and weld maps under Foreman direction
  • Fit, align, and prepare pipe joints, valves, supports, and specialties so welds meet gap, alignment, and cleanliness requirements before weld-out
  • Execute assigned piping install from ISOs, P&IDs, spool drawings, and work packages; complete full pipefitter tasks as required to keep the work front productive
  • Perform orbital welding and automatic/semi-automatic process work when specified; support manual stick, TIG, and MIG processes as qualified for the joint
  • Verify fit-up and welder qualification match joint requirements; support QC hold points, weld maps, NDE readiness, and punchlist closeout on assigned scope
  • Follow all hot work, confined space, pressure test, and PTP requirements; maintain tools, machines, and consumables in safe working condition
  • Report material shortages, drawing conflicts, and gating issues to the Foreman immediately; communicate completed install and weld quantities for Structor reporting

What You'll Bring

  • 3+ years of industrial pipe welding experience on process, utility, or manufacturing construction projects (battery, chemical, semiconductor, or similar preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to weld stainless steel, carbon steel, and other common industrial steel pipe to project specifications and applicable code requirements
  • Current welding certifications appropriate to process piping work (e.g., ASME Section IX / AWS as required by project); ability to pass site qualification tests
  • Full pipefitter experience preferred: layout, fit-up, hangers/supports, valve install, and reading ISOs, P&IDs, and spool drawings without constant rework
  • Orbital welding experience preferred on stainless or process tubing/pipe systems
  • Physical ability to work overhead, in elevated and confined spaces, and on 10–12 hour field shifts while maintaining quality and safety standards
  • OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 a plus. Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-site Reno Region environment and follow Tesla EHS and hot work controls
