Pit Bottom

Short Description

We are looking for an experienced Pit Bottom Operative to join our microtunnelling team. In this role, you will work at the shaft bottom, supporting microtunnelling and pipe jacking operations, assisting with equipment handling, service connections, and the safe installation of jacking pipes and tunnelling equipment.

Function Description

• Work safely within confined spaces in launch and reception shafts.
• Assist with AVN 800 MTBM launch, retrieval, and pipe jacking operations involving DN 800 reinforced concrete pipes.
• Disconnect and reconnect services between the MTBM and surface equipment, including electrical, hydraulic, slurry, lubrication, and ventilation systems.
• Handle hydraulic hoses, quick-release couplings, slurry lines, electrical connections, and ventilation ducting.
• Assist with the installation, alignment, and removal of jacking pipes and tunnelling equipment.
• Guide and position concrete, GRP, or steel jacking pipes during installation using approved lifting methods.
• Support lifting and rigging operations using chains, slings, shackles, spreader beams, and other lifting equipment.
• Assist mechanics and operators during maintenance activities and operational interventions.
• Follow all project safety procedures, risk assessments, and method statements.

Requirements To be considered for this position, candidates should have:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in micro tunnelling, pipe jacking, tunnelling, or heavy civil construction projects.
• Valid Confined Space Entry Training certification.
• Understanding of pipe jacking and micro tunnelling operations.
• Knowledge of safe working practices and hazard awareness in construction environments.
• Valid safety certifications such as VCA, SCC, CSCS, or equivalent are an advantage.
• Ability to work shifts, including nights and weekends when required.
• Good communication skills in English.
