Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Why Join Maguire Brothers?
Maguire Brothers is a family-run specialist commercial roofing and external refurbishment contractor, trading continuously since 1979 and working as Principal Contractor across London and the South East. We work on existing buildings across education, industrial, healthcare, heritage, residential block and public sector projects, and our advice is manufacturer-neutral: recommendations are based on condition, suitability and value rather than loyalty to any one system.
We are looking to add a Pitched Roofing Contracts Supervisor to our project management team. The role would also suit an experienced Roofing Manager or Technical Manager looking for a long-term position.
This is an exciting, stimulating and challenging role. You will report to the Head of Department but manage and help support the Contracts Manager on projects from start to finish, making sure the quality of the installation and health and safety are managed thoroughly throughout. The pipeline for future projects is extremely healthy, so we are looking for someone who can hit the ground running.
Your Objective
All our projects involve the refurbishment and re-roofing of existing, occupied buildings rather than installing roofs on new buildings. We always work as Principal Contractor. We hold the contract directly with our clients and take full responsibility for the project from survey through to completion, which means we supply our own scaffold and other necessary facilities.
Our projects cover flat roofs, traditional pitched roof materials including slates and tiles, and industrial sheeting and cladding. This role is focused on our pitched roofing projects, overseeing the technical installation of slating and tiling. We often carry out external refurbishment works as part of a roofing project, such as re-pointing chimney stacks, external decoration and the replacement of windows and rainwater goods.
Your objective is to manage the delivery of the contracts you are responsible for so that quality, health and safety, programme and all statutory requirements are met. You will liaise with clients and building users daily, meeting and exceeding their expectations to maximise repeat orders and recommendations. You will need to be well organised and resourceful, and carry out your duties in a timely way to make the best use of resources. Your role is central to the success of Maguire Brothers.
The Role
Pitched Roofing Overview
· Overseeing the technical installation of pitched roofing projects across London and the South of England.
· Monitoring, inspecting and reporting on site teams to ensure quality compliance.
· Ensuring the highest standards of quality and health and safety across all projects, producing, implementing and following all relevant documentation.
· Carrying out site inductions and toolbox talks.
· Assisting with site set up and take down, and supporting the wider project management team in the delivery of pitched roofing projects.
· Attending site meetings with clients, building surveyors and sub-contractors.
Project Delivery
· Being fully involved in managing the professional execution of each contract from receipt of order to completion.
· Familiarising yourself with each contract: reading and understanding the specification, the Construction Phase Plan, the programme and the project objectives.
· Assisting with project planning, including the allocation of sub-contractors and other resources, logistical set up and programme.
· Agreeing and understanding the method and sequence of construction.
· Inducting, briefing and managing sub-contractors, direct labour and site staff, making them aware of the project goals and passing on copies of all relevant documents.
· Monitoring progress on site daily to ensure goals are being achieved or exceeded and the specification is being followed.
· Thinking ahead, foreseeing problems and resolving them before they affect the project.
· Keeping the Head of Department informed of progress and any other issues, including anticipating future deliveries (skips, materials and so on) and helping to arrange them.
· Identifying any anticipated or likely variations to the specified works and advising the Head of Department in good time.
· Helping to maximise the company’s profitability through the efficient delivery of projects.
Health, Safety and Site Standards
· Ensuring the duties and obligations placed on the company by current and future health and safety legislation are met.
· Taking full responsibility for health and safety on site and ensuring adequate on-site supervision is maintained, both for safety and for monitoring progress and quality.
· Planning and carrying out inductions with site staff and sub-contractors at the start of every job or when they first attend site. Delivering toolbox talks when a particular need is identified for a project or task, where there is a gap in knowledge or understanding, and as refreshers.
· Checking and recording all necessary sub-contractor health and safety information, including certification and training, on the internal CRM.
· Preparing dynamic on-site risk assessments and method statements for any unforeseen tasks.
· Reporting immediately to the Head of Department and/or Company Director any issue that poses a significant health and safety breach or may give rise to an insurance claim.
· Ensuring a company name board is prominently and professionally displayed on every site, and that sites are set up in line with Maguire Brothers health and safety and brand guidelines.
· Keeping sites, including temporary storage and welfare facilities, clean and tidy, with materials stacked neatly, securely and with consideration for building users. Ensuring all site compounds and scaffolds are kept secure.
· Planning the delivery of materials, including safe access for vehicle movements and unloading on site, and arranging safe and secure storage at all times.
Quality and Completion
· Ensuring contracts are delivered to a high standard in line with the offers made by Maguire Brothers and the expectations of our clients.
· Managing quality as the works proceed, not at the end, and working towards a target of zero snagging and zero call backs so that clients receive the right solution, first time and on time.
· Visiting and inspecting your sites to make sure the works are being carried out in line with our offer and specification, and with the client’s needs.
· Being responsible for the quality of the finished product, including checking that works comply with our offer to the client and the relevant codes of practice.
· Arranging a final inspection of all contract works and, only when everything is satisfactory, informing the Head of Department that the site is ready for final internal sign off.
· Where appropriate, carrying out small or remedial works, and delivering or collecting small quantities of materials or rubbish, to keep the project progressing.
Client Liaison
· Making all necessary site visits to supervise the contracts and keep clients informed of progress at every stage, building positive client relationships through clear and timely communication.
· Advising clients when you are visiting site and arranging to meet them if they wish. Keeping them informed of day-to-day arrangements for scaffold, skips, storage of materials and so on.
· Referring any contractual queries from clients or building users to the Head of Department. You should not discuss or give an opinion on contractual matters.
Commercial Control
· Informing sub-contractors that claims for variations will only be considered if they have been instructed in writing or by email by the Head of Department and, where working on an agreed day works basis, are supported by invoices for any materials purchased and fully completed day work sheets signed by you or the client.
· Accurately measuring and recording completed work and progress, with dates, so the records can be used for applications for payment and when authorising sub-contractors’ claims for payment. Assisting with agreeing and signing off wages.
Reporting and Records
· Recording all site visits and using the company IT and other systems to record and file your activity. This includes producing and uploading the following reports, illustrated with photographs, at the minimum frequency shown:
○ Health and Safety: weekly
○ Quality: weekly
○ Scaffold Inspections: weekly
○ General Site Visits (covering the above and other items): every visit, and at least weekly
○ Inductions: every new person working on site
○ Toolbox Talks: every time they are delivered
· Including in your reports a record of any event affecting the contract, such as site instructions, delays, weather conditions, health and safety matters, variations and unforeseen works.
· Providing in-depth reporting on all aspects of the project, and raising any unforeseen challenges with the Head of Department before or as they arise.
General
· Complying with all Maguire Brothers policies and procedures.
· Maintaining and improving the presentation and operating standards of all staff and sub-contractors.
· Agreeing with your manager a minimum of 20 hours of external training every year.
· This is not a complete list of every task you will be required to carry out, and you may be asked to undertake other reasonable duties as required.
