What they need
Planning Manager
Location: MCP TN, LLC – 95 Ballpark Rd, Somerville, TN 38068
Reports To: Plant Manager
Direct Reports: Planning and Procurement Department – all personnel and all activities
Type: Full-time, Exempt
Position Summary:
Oversee all customer service, production planning, and material procurement for the site. Serve as the primary point of contact with customers for production planning and actuals, and act as the key link between customer timelines and plant resources, balancing manpower, capacity, and materials so that orders are completed efficiently and on schedule. Responsible for all material procurement for items purchased by the plant and for all item and finished goods setup in the systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend and provide information for all customer meetings concerning S&OP and customer service. This includes different styles of meetings depending on the customer.
- Ensure daily production is entered into customer systems based on each customer’s timing and requirements.
- Create and communicate the weekly plant production plan using ‘thoughtful planning’, that is, planning around constraints and changeover issues in the plant to drive higher %PR and lower costs.
- Balance plant resources, including manpower and line capacity, against customer timelines. Work through clear communication and collaboration with other departments so that projects are completed efficiently and on schedule.
- Lead daily plant and executive team meetings, sharing %PR and attainment.
- Maintain and communicate capacity planning for the plant, raising issues with plant leadership before they become a reality.
- Monitor production and %PR to ensure the plant can meet attainment now and in the short term, and communicate issues as they arise.
- Analyze performance data such as %PR to identify trends and opportunities for strategic adjustments and improvements to the plan and the operation.
- Manage MRP (current system) for both MCP-owned and customer-owned materials, and communicate issues that will impact the production plan.
- Establish and maintain min/max inventory levels and work from accurate forecasts so materials are available when needed without excess inventory.
- Manage the ordering of MCP-owned materials to meet production needs and space constraints.
- Assess and mitigate risks in the raw material supply chain, proactively developing contingency plans to minimize downtime or interruption to production.
- Manage systems setup, including item setup, BOM creation, and production specs.
- Collaborate with other departments, in particular Production, Logistics, Quality, and the Lab.
- Serve as the communication hub between customers, plant leadership, and all departments, keeping everyone informed of plan changes, risks, and issues early, clearly, and often.
- Ensure the team is trained for their specific roles as well as all plant-wide training.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong analytical skills to pull data from multiple systems and build production plans based on plant data.
- Good understanding of inventory, MRP, min/max levels, forecasting, and cash as they relate to ordering and production.
- Able to speak to customers, even during trying times, and work toward solutions.
- Has worked in a variety of systems such as MAS, SAP, etc., with a clear understanding of item setup, BOMs, backflush, inventory impact, etc.
- SAP experience strongly preferred. Although MCP does not use SAP as its main MRP system, understanding it allows the Planning Manager to gather data and plan more effectively using information customers already provide.
- Strong Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and VLOOKUPs.
- Proficient in other Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, etc.).
- Able to lead a department of people, including feedback, training, and, potentially, reorganizing the department.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and assertive when appropriate.
- Excellent communicator, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively with every department in the facility. Clear, frequent communication is the foundation of this role.
Education & Experience:
- Related Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university
- 10+ years in manufacturing; liquid filling and/or consumer goods preferred.
- 5+ years as a Planning Manager/Procurement Manager.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- This role requires walking, standing, sitting, twisting, bending, squatting, climbing stairs, reaching, pulling, and pushing throughout the day, with occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent computer use is required, along with the ability to use both hands, feet, arms, and legs.
- Regular presence is required in manufacturing, warehouse, laboratory, and office environments, including use of required PPE.
