Job Summary
Blackline Aluminum is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and results-driven Plant Manager to oversee manufacturing operations and ensure seamless coordination between production planning, purchasing, manufacturing, quality control, and shipping.
The successful candidate will take ownership of the complete manufacturing process, from the execution of Make-to-Order (MTO) requirements through production, final assembly, finished goods, and delivery readiness.
A primary focus of this role is ensuring that all components required for each project or floor are manufactured, received, inspected, and completed in alignment with established delivery schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Oversee the entire production workflow from MTO execution to finished goods and scheduled delivery.
- Work closely with Production Planning to develop realistic production schedules based on material availability, production capacity, labour resources, and customer delivery requirements.
- Ensure proper synchronization of production activities across Cutting, CNC, Assembly, Glass, Panel, Door, and other manufacturing departments.
- Identify potential production bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to prevent delays.
Material Readiness & Purchasing Coordination
- Maintain direct communication with Purchasing to ensure all raw materials and components required for upcoming production are available when needed.
- Monitor the expected arrival of outsourced components, including sliding door frames, panels, glass, and other externally manufactured materials.
- Proactively identify material shortages or supplier delays that could impact production and delivery commitments.
- Coordinate production priorities and scheduling adjustments when material availability changes.
Complete Floor & Project Readiness
- Ensure all components required to complete a project or floor, including swing doors, corners, H-bars, preparation materials, glass, and other related products, are completed and available at the same time.
- Monitor departmental production progress to prevent incomplete floor shipments.
- Establish clear procedures for identifying missing components before scheduled completion dates.
- Coordinate with Shipping to ensure completed products are properly staged and ready for dispatch according to delivery schedules.
Quality Control & Production Standards
- Oversee quality control checkpoints throughout manufacturing, particularly between Cutting/CNC and Assembly.
- Ensure components are inspected for dimensional accuracy, workmanship, and compliance with approved drawings before proceeding to the next production stage.
- Reduce manufacturing errors, material waste, rework, and production delays.
- Work with department supervisors to identify recurring quality issues and implement corrective actions.
Plant Operations & Leadership
- Direct and oversee daily manufacturing activities across production departments.
- Lead, coach, and hold production supervisors accountable for departmental productivity, quality, safety, and performance.
- Ensure efficient allocation of labour, equipment, and resources to achieve production targets.
- Establish production priorities and resolve operational challenges affecting workflow.
- Monitor equipment utilization, downtime, preventive maintenance, and overall operational efficiency.
- Promote a safe, organized, and productive working environment.
Performance & Delivery Accountability
- Take ownership of production schedule adherence and finished-goods readiness.
- Monitor key performance indicators, including on-time completion, production efficiency, quality defects, rework, and material-related delays.
- Conduct regular production coordination meetings with Planning, Purchasing, department supervisors, and Shipping.
- Provide management with accurate updates on production progress, potential delays, and corrective action plans.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen production coordination, operational efficiency, and delivery performance.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of manufacturing management experience, preferably in aluminum, architectural glazing, curtain wall, window and door systems, or related manufacturing industries.
- Strong understanding of production scheduling, material planning, manufacturing operations, and quality control.
- Experience managing multiple production departments and coordinating outsourced manufacturing processes.
- Proven ability to meet demanding delivery schedules while maintaining quality standards.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to interpret production drawings, specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems, production reporting, and inventory management is an asset.
