What they need
ICODOS is looking for a Plant Operator (m/f/d) to help run POSEIDON, its e-methanol demonstration plant at the Mannheim wastewater treatment plant.
Role conditions
This is a full-time, fixed-term role for six months, based on site in Mannheim. The planned start is approximately March/April 2027, to be confirmed with the offer. The role follows a rotating 24/7 schedule of 8-hour early, late and night shifts, including weekends and public holidays. Shifts may fall on any day of the week, up to five shifts per week.
Your mission
Operate the POSEIDON demonstration plant safely and reliably, carry out test instructions precisely, and provide complete operating records to the engineering and R&D team.
What you will do
Keep the plant within its defined operating limits and follow operating procedures, permit-to-work controls and site safety rules. Carry out routine field work such as methanol transfer and controlled discharges as instructed.
Monitor the process from the control room and during field rounds. Set and maintain the conditions in each test instruction, identify abnormal conditions and promptly report deviations to the responsible engineer.
Collect and label gas and liquid samples and perform the routine measurements specified in test instructions.
Record readings and observations accurately and traceably. Report missing results, unusual readings and deviations to the responsible engineer.
Complete the shift log and a structured handover so the next shift and engineering team have a clear picture of plant status and open actions.
What you bring
Technical education or training in chemistry, process or chemical engineering, or a related field. This can be vocational training, technician-level training, current studies or a completed degree.
Experience operating a chemical, pilot or laboratory plant is helpful, ideally in shift work.
Basic plant-safety knowledge, procedural discipline, reliable attendance, attention to detail and a calm response to abnormal conditions.
Confidence using a computer for data recording, for example Excel, and clear communication within a shift team.
Fluent spoken and written English and intermediate spoken and written German.
Willingness and ability to work on site in Mannheim on the rotating schedule described above.
Training and offer
Before joining the shift rota, you will complete a structured qualification programme of up to four weeks at the POSEIDON plant, with weekly competence checks and plant-specific operator authorisation. The salary is €2,250 per month plus shift compensation. You will contribute to developing climate technology and receive role-specific training with ICODOS process and commissioning engineers.
How to apply
