Plasterer and Painter (Combined Trade)

About the role

Pagute Bros Limited is seeking an experienced Plasterer and Painter (Combined Trade) to join our team on a full-time basis in Christchurch, Central Canterbury. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled tradesperson who can deliver high-quality work across both plastering and painting disciplines. You will play a crucial role in our construction and renovation projects, contributing to the reputation we have built for excellence and attention to detail in the building trades industry.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, plaster and finish interior and exterior walls and ceilings to specification, ensuring smooth and professional results.
• Apply paint and protective coatings to a variety of surfaces, including plasterboard, timber and masonry.
• Read and interpret plans, specifications and technical drawings to ensure work meets project requirements.
• Prepare work areas and surfaces, including cleaning, sanding, patching and priming prior to plastering or painting
• Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to complete tasks efficiently and to a high standard
• Mix plaster, fillers and paints to the correct consistency and colour specifications
• Collaborate with other tradespeople and site managers to ensure projects progress smoothly and on schedule
• Maintain a clean and tidy work site, disposing of waste materials responsibly
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and site-specific requirements
• Inspect completed work to identify any defects or areas requiring rework

What we're looking for

• Formal qualifications or recognised apprenticeship in plastering and painting, or equivalent practical experience
• Proven experience working as a plasterer and painter in the building trades industry
• Sound knowledge of plastering techniques, including skimming, floating and finishing
• Proficiency in painting and decorating, including surface preparation and application methods
• Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications accurately
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality finishes
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and physical fitness for demanding manual work
• Valid New Zealand driver's licence is essential
• Current First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 awareness and commitment to safe work practices
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Reliability, professionalism and a positive attitude towards work
• Experience with specialist coatings or finishes would be advantageous
